Can anyone give me information on feed value and monetary value of chopping wheat and putting it in a silo?
I have the opportunity to purchase but have no experience with it.
Information would be appreciated.

Feed value will be about 80% of corn silage, depending on the amount of grain present. Nutritional value of wheat silage will be less than barley silage and more than oat silage. Yield will run about 6-9 tons per acre. Harvest at mid-dough to maximize TDN per acre and optimize moisture content (60-65%). If you have lots to harvest start at milk or early dough rather than risk the crop getting too dry. If moisture drops below 60%, add water before ensiling. Protein value of wheat silage is likely to be 9-11%. It should be a good feed if put up right.
