Cidr's do you use yours more than once?

I have heard that you can use your Cidr's twice and still get the same results. Has anyone done this or what is your opinion on doing this?

We do it all the time. We've even used them 3 times if they come out of one cow and go right back into another one (after being rinsed in Nolvasan). Have just as much luck with the 2nd time as the 1st time, haven't done 3 times enough to make a good suggestion. I've heard that it's recommended to freeze them between uses but we just reseal them in a seperate bag and store at room temp.

Nope.  I figure if I am going to invest my time into sync'ing cows, I am not going to skimp on re-using cidrs.  Plus, hate to risk disease.  Just my opinion and what works for me.

We use all of ours twice my wife takes them to work and autoclave's them between uses.

lots of people do and lots of people have good luck.... if you do the 2 week program I wouldn't use them again.... they say that's all they are worth.... if your like the boss man and are setting up 250 head I see where cost comes into play.... but like BTDT said

I use new ones each year on mine

Years ago, I used some twice in one year, but if they have been used once, then cleaned, what do you think the shelf life would be for a second (re)use?

We didn't even buy the first ones we used. An old farmer didn't like that his son only used them once. We were told to use a cold water rinse and let them dry on newspaper or paper grocery bags (out of the sun of course). The  though was cleaning them too thoroughly would make them ineffective. We were told by a fairly reputable breeder that as long as you take care of them you are fine.

We typically use ours twice.  We do make sure to always use new CIDR's in our donor cows when flushing, and we do not use those CIDR's a second time since they are in the cow longer than the normal 7 days.

Repro guys at the university told me there's enough progesterone in the US cidrs for two rounds of 5 or 7-day protocols.
Cautioned against using soap/detergent to clean them, as it will remove some of the progesterone. Just rinse thoroughly and get any gross contamination off.  A dip in Nolvasan(chlorhexidine) solution may be adequate to disinfect.
Autoclaving is thought to 'bring more progesterone' to the surface...but that may be imaginary, or anecdotal at best.

Saw a short report a couple of years ago suggesting that use of an OB lube containing chlorhexidine to lubricate CIDRs at insertion reduced vaginal infections and translated into a slightly higher conception rate on AI service.

Packaging says there is 19 days of progesterone on them. So 2 uses of 5- or 7-day is fine, when we used the 3rd time it was 3 uses of 5-day and we still got the cow pregnant. I was using semen I got for free in a 1-teat cow that was either get pg or go to slaughter, so it wasn't a huge risk.
