So I'm pulling CIDR's and doing a lutalyse shot tomorrow.  Planning on a fixed time AI, how long after pulling CIDRs should I be doing it.  My vet tells me 48hrs, the other protocol I have say 60hrs.  Which one is it my AI guy needs to know!!  This is a little different protocol than I have used in the past and I'm a little unsure which one is right.  Thanks.

My husband is a vet and he is my AI tech as well. We always breed on heats and anyone that isnt in by  60 hrs we give Cysterelin (ovacyst or factrel) 2 cc and time breed at that time.

we time breed ours at 80 hours if they havent came in yet, but we do our protocol a little different.  We put cidr's in and give cystorelin, seven days later we give 5.5-6 cc's of lutalyse,  and then a full day after we gave they lutalyse we pull the cidr.  It really seems to tighten the cows up for us.  They all seem to come in heat on the same day for us, but thats just how we do it.

Here are sample of protocols we use from ABS.

This is how I was told to do it by the Profs. at KSU.  This is also how we do it and have very good luck.  Most of the cows come into heat between 2 and 3 days after we pull CIDR's.

Mark, if you are planning a strait timed breeding, the protocol that I would use for virgin heifers would be breed and shoot GnRH @ 60 hours + or - 6hours & if it is a cow + or - 72 hours post pulling the cidr. Would much rather breed on a standing heat if possible. Good luck, Brent C.

Thanks guys, guess I'm going on the 60 hour deal, as thats what I told my hired arm to come at.  We'll see how it turns out.  In 6 years using CIDR's and fixed time AI, I've averaged around 70%.  best was close to 80 and last year was my poorest at about 60.  I'm told that 70% is the avg. on a fixed time so guess I can't complain, just wish I had the time to heat detect, and the grass close to home to do it on!!
