I have CIDRS in a group of cows and heifers that I am going to remove tomorrow. Does it matter what time they are taken out? I know the ones in the heifers are staying in 6 hours longer than the cows, but I didn't know if I had to take them out of the cows around the time of day they were put in, or if it didn't matter. I was told it didn't matter as long as they are bred a certain amount of time later, but I'm not sure.

It does not matter from how long you put them in, but DOES matter when you target time to AI is. The way I always figured it was the time I was expecting to AI, then backed up to when to give shots and pull CIDR's, depending on what protocol you are using.
Does that help??? Happy breeding!

So it doesn't matter when they are pulled as long as it has been the correct number of days and the are bred the right number of hours after?

It matters if you are TAI breeding.  I'll pull mine in the afternoon, then the 72 hour mark, if I have not observed heat, will be in the afternoon as well.

So you pull them and then TA.I. 72 hours later? I was told if I pulled them in the morning, they will be bred another evening. That's what was recommended, but there's so many ways to do it.

So it sounds like if I put the CIDRS in at 3:00 I don't have to pull them out around 3:00 a week later. Am I wrong here? I've just been told a mix of things! Haha

Here is an example of a protocol we used in the fall:
Put in CIRDR's and give GnRH (day -5) on Nov 18th
Pull CIDR's, give 5ml Lute between 8:30-9AM on 23rd
Give second Lute shot at 8:30 PM (12 hours later)
two of four (one cow and one heifer) were standing in the AM on the 25th
third cow was standing 8 AM in the 26th, and last cow was standing at noon on the 26th
With all, we gave GnRH at breeding time (12 hours after standing).

Our ET guy has had us leave the CIDR's in an extra day before so the cow would come in on a more convenient day for him. It does not matter WHEN you pull, just that you follow the time line from the hour you actually pull the CIDR. As always, watching for heat closely really helps! We heat detect 3 times a day minimum. Especially when we are using CIDR's.

Are you going to time AI or are you going to heat detect & breed off of standing heats? If you are time breeding, decide how many hours + or - after pulling the cidrs that you are breeding and work backwards from the time that you want to be breeding the cows to figure out when you need to pull your cidrs. hours after pulling cidrs to time of insemination will be different for cows verses first calf heifers. Hope this helps and makes sense. If you want more help just tell us when you are wanting to breed and we can tell you backwards from that point when you need to pull your cidrs. What protocol are you using? &day, 5 day, 14 day etc.?

We are using the 7 day CIDR program with 5cc luta given when CIDR is pulled and timed A.I. Around 60 hours with GNRH. Leaving the CIDRS in heifers 6 hours longer as instructed by a vet. Hope that hepls! Thanks for the advice, everyone!

Nope that didn't help. You didn't tell us when you started or when you want to be TAI.

In my first post, I stated that they will be pulled today. If its the 7 day protocol then they will have been put in last sunday (3/4).

Also, I said that we will be time breeding them about 60 hours after the CIDRS are pulled..
