Are their any websites that show pics of a good clip job up close?  Is their anything that you can put on a calf before clipping to make the hair stand out? How long should the hair on the side of a calf be trimmed down too.  Thanks need to refine my skills.

I don't know of a website, but here are a couple of pictures, she might be easier to see because of the color, the guy that clipped her is as good as anyone I have ever seen.  If this isn't what your looking for let me know.  We use pink oil or final bloom and blow.

Does anyone know of a clipping clinic that will be going on soon (early spring)?  We are willing to travel a few hours and want to bring one of our own calves to really get hands on.  We have been to many local clipping clinics and have learned alot, but we want to know in detail and want to know exactly how the pros do it.  Any info would be great.  Thanks

There is a Stierwalt clinic in Nevada, MO that looks like the closest he will get to your area on the schedule.

here is his website, I know there are others that do them out there, but I don't know anything about any of them.

Where in Southern IL? I'm from the Champaign-Urbana area, and I don't know for sure, but I might be able to help you out with finding a pro to help ya. Message me if you're interested.

stronly suggest you buy steirwalts videos on clipping. They are great. Easy to follow and understand. I watch them over and over every now and then. Practice practice....

I never watched a clipping video, but I did watch Kirk every time I got the chance.  I watched a bunch of people clip and learned that everyone does things differently to suit there own styles and abilities.  I learned the most by clipping.  Lots of clipping.  Lots of different calves.  There are no two clip jobs that should be the same.  Even the same calf will need to be clipped differently as it grows, and develops.  The best clip job starts with a whole lot of studying the calf.  It's very similar to painting.  You have to be able to see the end before you begin.

I had an experienced person then come and we had 9 calves that needed clipped 2 steers and 7 heifers. My sister and I worked on each side and then had a more experienced invidual give us critiques. Doing it makes much more sense then just wathcing, i agree 100%. I think when you have a pro come and help you it is also helpful. SOme of the calves we purchased were from very experienced folks. When they offered to come and clip we asked if they would come and watch us clip that we wanted to do it ourselves. Never been to a clinic so I can't comment on one.

Southern IL... I am only a stones throw away from southern IL.    I'm sure that shortyjock89 can help you out or he can get someone to help you out.  But, if not, let me know.
