Building a clipping room - I have decided on 6 bulb 4ft  t5 fixtures. Room is 20x40 with 12ft cielings. White steel on ceiling, and walls. Anybody have sugestions on how many fixtures I need? A portion of this will also serve as an indoor wash rack. We also will have a 12x20 cooler in the front that will be a seperate room with different lighting. I typically like lots of light while clipping, and want to reduce shadows as much as possible.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to check with a commercial lighting store. They can give you alot of info.  If in doubt add an extra one or 2 fixtures now because its alot easier then going back later.  For what its worth we have a 12x24 clipping room with same lining as yours.  We have 3 fixtures with 4 bulbs.  The white walls and ceiling help tremenously.  I still use a worklight though but mostly because my eyes are 50 yrs old not shadows.

I agree with ferkj.  Google lighting for a bathroom.  Most downward lighting will create shadows.  Consider some side lighting as well. Side lighting may be as simple as getting portable dock lights.

The coolest clipping room I have ever seen as far as lighting was built about 25 years ago, and used for about 30 days a year.  What they did was mounted 4'-2 bulb fixtures vertically on the walls all the way around the room every 2 feet, and 4'-4 bulb fixtures solid above the clipping chutes.  The wall fixtures had wire grill covers on them so if you bumped them you didn't break the bulbs.

It seemed like overkill, but there wasn't a shadow in the room and there was no need for any spot lighting.

Once I actually looked into what those fixtures cost, I realized it really didn't cost that much to set it up like that.
