Club Calf bulls that work well on PB Angus cows?

Hi,
My brother and I are just getting started in the club calf business. My parents have bred registered Black Angus for 30 yrs and we are trying to make show steers. Wondering if anyone knows which bulls work good on 5-6 frame, stout Angus cows. Our cows are easy fleshy, but have more set they I would like in the hind legs. Also wondering (for fun) what is the hairest bull out there? I saw the Lautner catalog and Draggin Shag caught my eye. Has anyone seen him? Another question, what bull makes a real wild color pattern, is there anything that can put color on an Angus?
The bulls I have been looking at are: Carnac (we got a pretty cool steer this year by him, I will be posting pics of him soon), Manchild (always been one of my favorites, Hired Man (my brother likes him and his is a 3/4 brother to Manchild), Draggin Shag (new), Heat Wave clones (I personally like 15, any thoughts here?), Indian Outlaw (new) and Ree Heights (haven't heard much about him, how are his calves?).

Here is yet another question for you: I read in a post, that corn burns the hair off, what to feed then to get them fat? What product grows hair?

to be honest with you, what if you just put embryos in?

isn't the hairest bull named Highlander?

HW on Angus, Headliner maybe too. Defintely think Indian Outlaw would give you some color. seen some good Manchilds too.

Almost Famous puts some hair on calves as well. Can be a little heavy fronted but have seen some yak haired Almost Famous calves. If you want to add some color, Get It Done will throw color. His calves are hairy

Alias works good on sound plainer type angus. My best calf the past 2 years has been an Alias out of a Future Direction/6I6 cow. 90lb bw

I second the Alias, we have had good luck with him on Angus also.  Angus cows need to be a little bigger framed more toward the frame 6's istead of the 5's.  We have had both sellable steers and heifers out of him but heifers tend to be best, though we have raised a couple County fairs grand steers.  You will ocasionally get a cripple even out of very sound Angus cow, and what I mean when I say cripple they usually toe out on front and can pop on their rear pasterns.  Not bad enough that the won't work in a feedlot but to bad to be a good show animal.  Now I have seen some bad enough they wouldn't work in a feedlot out of clubier cows.

trausch farms has a new bull...uncle kracker..hoo too/ dj hunk...white/ sound bull with hair/bone galore...thinking of using him on 3 of my angus this spring...jbarl

I saw this Uncle Cracker bull at Hawkeye Breeders this spring and really liked the bull.  They didn't have a sign up, so I didn't know what he was.

Yeah, my brother likes Uncle Cracker. Personally, I like Manchild. We are going to try Hired Man this year and we have one straw of Alias and one of Carnac left from last year.
I got 5 cows picked out and trying to figure out what to use on which one. Do Hired Man's come bigger than Alias, Carnac's? I heard they get too big if you use them on too large of cows? Any experience with this?  :)

Bleeding purple has worked great for us. We used him on a Century touch stone cow two years in a row and both time we have gotten great heifers.

Irish Whiskey or possibly a clean son. Dubai or Patton. A variety of PB Simi bulls to make cows.

I forgot about Patton - we won the State Angus Steer Show this year with a Patton out of an Angus cow. The best growing steer we've ever had. He really grew off well.

If your parents have a good set of Angus cows in place for the last 30 years.. don't ruin them with using some club calf crap... buy steers- far easier, cheaper, and more consistent...  If your Angus cows have too much set to their rear legs- that's a good thing.. You mate them to any ole club calf bull and he'll straighten them out in one generation...  Deal done...  I guess it would be cool for you to breed some cows for your own steers.. but sure don't be wasting time thinking of keeping daughters of them-- breed your best Angus cows for that...

I've said it 100 times, Indian Outlaw will not breed true, and I've seen more black calves out of him than any other color.. HE'll make a blue roan, or a white face too-- but physically I've never seen two calves that look alike.  But if I remember, that one kid.. His heifer sure was fluent in her movement.. and boy he beat the soundness to death like a drum on her...

Sounds like you have a good set of Angus cows-- I'd breed with any super crossed up clubby bull-- HW sons, HS sons, Char influenced bulls.. I'd stay away from  high % maines, and angus bulls. 

if you want color, go shorthorn or char.
