So after a bit of haranguing, here are some pics from my trip that I took at a club calf operation in Colorado. I will leave it to the owner of these cows (they're on SP) if and when they wish to identify them (or you can send me the details if you like  :)).

It was really interesting to get to see an operation like this, as we have nothing like this Down Under.

Please excuse the quality of the photos, they're all unedited and the light in some of them is a bit ordinary.

Okay well here it goes. Group 1
8861 Mossy Oak X Meyer 734 Great cow.
8865 Chunky Monkey(pb char) X above Mossy cow 2nd calver
8868 10 year old Jazz cow
8871 10 year old Limi X Full Form
These cows are in a pasture by Carter Lake in Colorado. There is not a flat spot in the whole 320 acres. Not all Clubby herds are pampered and hand fed. They go to this pasture after the rattle snakes are dormant. Ususlly late October to this year Jan 30th.

8874 Habenero 10 year old
8881 Meyer 734 X 550
8889 Meyer 734 X Draftpick heifer She didnt have the best show career but I will bet she is a great producer.
8890 Witch Doctor X Meyer 734 bred to Diamond Captain Mark hoping for a heifer.
8891 Meyer 734 X Angus donor. We have several different matings on her in the tank.
The last 3 were taking at our hay farm. The mountain pasture only holds 30 for the well to keep up, so the young and very old and some others cant go.

8907 and 8893 are my fave raves-just gotta like a Shorthorn like that-and a stout Simm influences like the Brockle Sorry-realised I had put wrong no-the 8893 is definitely the 1 I like O0
That shorthorn is a Vortec daughter out of Diamond Dreamer 6H, a half sister to Diamond Helena Dottie 12H. I realy liked the Meyer 734 cows. The mountain pasture is pretty amazing, all on a slope with rocky cliffs. The elevation must be getting up there and those clubby cows were out rustling for feed, no corn or grain anywhere in sight! (thumbsup)

The 8893 is a great cow. She had her first heifer last year, that being the Monopoly pictured also. I think all her bull calves have been sold as show steers also. She is going to be 10 years next year and people say that clubby cows have no longevity? I have many over 10 and more pushing that number.

Frostback I thought the point of club cattle was show ring, these females appear to be working well in real world conditions!!!!  <party>  I have to say I am partial to the roan, I am sure everyone is shocked ;) The Meyer females are very impressive deep bodied females, 8903 is also very impressive especially considering her age and my final pick (seems I have picked everyone) is the 8896 female.  Great group of females I need to come visit..........

I really was impressed to see these cows out foraging as they're supposed to. This herd would be able to survive in our conditions; which is saying something, because I've always thought "clubby" cattle would struggle in our climate!
