Clubby Angus sires

What are some Angus bulls to use to get clubby calves?  I don't want to have to throw away the heifer calves so the sires need to be well bred and capable of producing maternal strength as well as phenotype.  I need some choices for both Angus cows and cross cows.  If you have experiences with a particular bull let me know what to expect with his use. 

Raptor- cows need some rib, but he throws style and muscle.

Northern Improvement works well on crossbred cows to give you Angus-type steers.  On Angus cows, Who Made Who still works.  Res Angus steer at Ft Worth in 09 was a WMH.  In fact, true ChiAngus bulls (I'm not current on which ones are most popular now) will give you steers that will class Angus all day long.

Half blood Maine bulls will work on Angus cows also - you might consider Patton.  Females would sure be good too.

BC Lookout- we have a purebred out of him that could certainly be mistaken for a crossbred!! From the day he was born he was solid, stout, hairy and just plain fun to look at. You may want to be careful with birth wheights though, as the only one that we have wheighed in at about 100 lbs, but he was born unassisted out of  a first calf heifer, probably wont take the chance again!! (lol)

We had a Patton steer that was State Champion Angus at our State Show in Feb. I think he's 5/8 ths Maine 3/8 ths Angus. That steer grew better than any we've ever fed.

My BC lookout calves were not impressive at all, all of them came easy, but none really took off and grew. As far as sires I have seen Aberdeen is really impressive at stud, I am surprised I have not heard of any calves out of him.

DAJS All Star M243.  Very nice bull 3/4 brother to Convoy and Hot Rod, the sire of Style.  I sure would consider him.  He might not sire steers like some other bulls, but, wow, he can sure sire females.

Agree. My Juneau's have been stout and very nice fronted. He calves real easy too.

If you can find some saugahatchee 3000c I still think he throws the prettiest daughters around and I've seen some great steers out of him as well.  an if the calves will be purebred then he pretty much guarantees you 5 grand apiece if they are at all decent...

We will be introducing our senior herd sire this fall, and semen will be available about the middle of October. He is CC Christian's Coach 5040, who has sired many county and regional winners of both Angus steers and heifers. Our best steer from him was Champion Lightweight @ Ft. Worth last year, and we had 2 in the sale this year from him. Also, Reserve Champion Angus Scramble Heifer @ Houston. @ Ft. Worth, 4 second places, 2 thirds, 2 fifths, and 4 more in the top ten.
His calves are easy to sell as they consistently produce superior bone, muscle, topline, clean fronted, just very stout calves, His bull calves will work in any commercial herd. Their growth and weaning weights are phenominal, and they are very gentle.
"Coach" is out of Robert Lastovica's Intrigue bull, a Stockman 365 son that produced the '05 Ft. Worth Grand Champion heifer. His dam is a Black Label daughter (Scotch Cap) that was a big old soggy Division  Champion @ several majors for the Lastovica family.

Glenstory, Windfall and Style dont even have calves on the ground. How do you know they will breed true?

You are right, I don't know that these exact bulls will breed true, however, both bulls come from some of the best proven lines of Angus show cattle.  The consistency of the cattle related to these bulls makes them worthy of consideration.  I am hoping that in time, I am correct with this assessment.

Another bull that may be worth consideration is RAF Black Canyon.  You can see him on page 6 at this link.  www.Gene-Vision.com  Again, from very reputable lines and a very good Angus cattle breeder.

Juneau, Northern Improvement, SVF Chief (he's an old one), and most of the 9FB3 sons have worked well for us in the past. Lut and Outer Limits
are a couple of bulls we will be trying soon.
