We have a purebred Angus cow (sorry no pic currently) moderate cow, long clean fronted, deep, and really good milk. Looking to breed her to something besides pure angus. Had a good Vegas heifer last year. Just curious if anyone has tried a bull and had good luck?

Walks alone as been very successful on purebred angus calves. Always can go the heat wave route those are the top choices from what I've heard.

MTnman, not being a smart alack, will you get color from a pure Angus and MOB, or just some chrome? I guess I am assuming she a Black Angus

Probably chrome but that could depend if she has the red gene. If she is Homo black then black w/chrome if she has the red gene I would think she has a good chance of having a red w/chrome.

Breed them all to a bull like cervesa or Ali, keep the females, now you have some club calf mommas. But walks alone and smilin bob are your best bet with angus cows, stay away from monopoly genetics if they are pure angus.

Our experience has been great on our purebred angus by using the following in no particular order, Eye Candy, Monopoly, Walks Alone, and Who Made Who.  We have used them on a variety of purebred cows and they all seem to work.  All four sires have made both good heifers and steers.  As suggested above, we are trying Unstoppable this year on some purebreds as well.

I've got a freaky profiling Angus heifer and I'll be breeding her to Jesse James.  Will add the bone, thickness and hair she needs.  And calving ease, too.  Not to mention he's high enough % Chi that the heifers will meet the registration requirement for National shows and sales.

Thanks Mtnman, just curios.
We had a nice Smiling Bob out of an Angus cow this past year, he was not huge boned but well balanced.

I used Amen on a Reg. Angus cow similar to what you described. I am Happy with the calf, Got a Heifer, nice bone, good hair, and sound as a cat! Here is a couple of pics of her at a week old. She came at around 70 lbs although he is shown to have a 92 lb BW, I had a bull calf out of a Char X cow larger frame, came at 90 lb BW. Both sound as a cat as described.
