Ok so i know that these are two different topics but for me they weed together and il try to explain it, and also i ask that everyone keep this topic clean but i also want honest and truthful opinions.

Ok so i bought a few heifers from one of the lautners last fall and they are pretty nice heifers. I have had a couple people tell me that i should just get rid of them. they say that clubbies don't make good moms, but can you make moms out of them? What are peoples experience with Clubby heifers making them moms. I have had plenty of people want to buy them so i guess there must be some interest in their production value. Also the second part of this topic is that I live really close to the lautners and the county that i show in there is a few number of kids that also buy calves from them (we have a really competitive county fair). Now ive been warned by several people to stay away from them, that they do bad buisness and they will screw you over. Now in my experience with them, they seemed fine but they rushed things through and just didnt fill me in about what they were doin with the calves (vaccines, feeding, ect.) Now i wanna know what are other peoples thoughts on doing buisness with them and are they really good people, or should we watch out for them. Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks.

Your really asking for some discussion that I don't think is very appropriate. If you would have left names out of the post it would have been a little better.

As far as clubby females making good cows, well, some can and have, but you have to look at what these cattle have been bred to do. Most of the time in the club calf arena, cattle are not bred to be good cows, they are bred to be good steers.

I'll speak first to the heifers. In that regard, I would have to know how the heifers are bred before I make my final decesion. Lautners handle a lot of good bulls that excel in different areas. I might also say that they handle some bulls that are not so good, and a lot that are far from proven. Some sire great steers and lousy cow mommas, and others sire the opposite. I can't say about your heifers.  As for the Lautners themselves, I have also heard the stories. I think it would be wise to form your own opinion based on your personal experience rather than things told to you by others. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I've been curios about the clubbies making good mommas myself...glad someone else is too.  I have some show heifers that I'm wanting to base a heard off of.  I'm reading that they won't make good mommas, but how else are you supposed to get the genetics if you're not someone who's completely fush with cash? I have been trying to get the WMW as much as possible in my females, because everyone I have talked to has said they actually do make good mommas.

As far as the Lautner's...with EVERYONE there is always someone we upset.  It's not a perfect world, and I agree with the person who already said it form your own opinion.  Maybe some of the things that have upset the other people won't bother you, or maybe they have changed their business practices to correct these problems.

Don't ever form an opinion about someone by listening to someones gossip.  Form your own opinions based on your experiences and then keep your opinion to yourself.  Always the best policy then you will never look like an  ( , ) (a**).  As far as your clubby heifers go.  I wish you luck and I really hope they will raise babies for you.  Get them pelvis checked before you breed, breed conservatively your first go, and if they won't milk pitch them.  The best looking heifer we ever had was a Dr. Who out of a good Shorty cow and she wouldn't ever breed.  Needless to say she is no longer here!

If they are heifers I would evaluate them on their merit when they calve. Do you know what types of bulls they are bred too? I have one of my best cows that is out of "clubby genetics". She sticks AI first time, milks like a Holstein, Calves unassisted and has a saleable calf every year. She actually does better than a couple of my purebred cows. I usually make up my mind on how my cows perform. You will always find someone that had a bad experience with Who or Heat Seeker or even Heat Wave. See how they babies look and see how the momma's do. If you have to cut a few out then I would be worried about future matings unless they were mated to bulls with little or no calving ease.

As far as people go- I am not sure I would come on a public forum and make statements without putting MY NAME on the post. Why is that fair to Lautners? I have done business with folks in the "business" who have a "name". I got along fine with some and others I would never go back to. That's just business. Usually, You can find someone who had a bad experience and is more willing to share the bad than the good. They don't always share what "they" did in the business transaction.  Make your decisions based on how YOU were handled in doing business. JMO.

I don't think you can make a broad statement about clubby bred cows making bad mommas.  It has a lot to do with the other side of the pedigree.  Here is an Ali X Heatwave first calf heifer with her Charolais sired September born heifer calf taken in December.  Yes, she is a TH carrier and yes she is very clubby looking but look at what she has produced.

As to asking opinions about breeders' reputations, I would keep that private and off a board like this.  The problem is that some folks will trash other folks because the are jealous or just plain mean.
