OK we are looking into collecting and promting a clubcalf bull. We contacted volgar semen and their prices are $1.65 a straw under 500 straws or $1.50 a straw over 501 straws. is that a good price?? or are there some other bull collection places close to southwest ks?? How much does it usually cost to promote them and take them to denver?? thanks a lot :))) (cow)

Not positive on exact prices since it's been awhile since I've had one collected, but that sounds pretty right. Have bought some cattle from Voglers a few years back, and was impressed - I believe it to be a quality operation ran by good people. There's also Reproduction Enterprises at Stillwater, OK and Great Plains Breeders in Shamrock, TX that could be as close to you if you're far enough south and/or west. I've always used Great Plains, and been very happy with them.

Last I knew spots in the display area in the yards at Denver were booked a couple years in advance and if you needed one this late in the game you were at the mercy of anyone that might have a spot they weren't using that they were willing to sell. Whatever that might cost plus a nice sign and some nice flyers and a few days in Denver for you and whoever you take along, plus full page ads in the publications of your choice. It's not cheap, but it's all neccesary if you want to sell much semen. Not trying to discourage you, just make sure the bull's worth it - but if he is it's a great ride.

Agree with Elbee if KABSU is good enough for Ohlde it should be good enough for anyone else in Kansas.
We have never promoted a bull, but were told years ago that to promote a bull correctly you should budget around 30,000, I'm sure that price is higher by now.

ohlde was using kabsu 25 years ago when ildeno was there as well as a few others.  but he uses voglers too.  you can see a couple of his bulls at their site.

go here,  http://www.voglersemenbovine.com/

and you will see two bulls in the second flash photo which are ohldes.

perhaps they have different services, or more time to deal with issues that a high volume stud can't.

We do all of our collecting at KABSU and they are great to work with but we only live 20 minutes down the road so it probally makes it easier for them to go out of their way for us. Another option is to talk to Kevin Jensen. He works with Hawkeye Breeders on collecting and would also give your bull the extra TLC needed that he might not get at other centers. Not for sure on Kevins prices but if I had a high profile  bull that I wanted looking great 24/7 and also wanted to collect semen Kevin would be my choice if I had to leave them their for an extended time.
