we are looking at a bull who is a yellowish char color. what i am wondering is this a indicator that they have the red gene or that they will throw a higher percentage of certain colored cattle. advice from anyone with some experience in this area would be greatly appreciated.

A yellow cross bull has two red genes and only one diluter. So it still depends on what colour cows you are breeding him to to predict the outcome of the calves colour.

thanks frostback, that pretty much answers my question. i just am not very well versed in the char cross thing here up in wisconsin but i thought it had something to do with having red genes. we have plenty of shorthorn and shorthorn influence as well as red gene maines so the red gene bull wouldnt help matters.
