Had a vet tell me today that he had been to a seminar about the value in the level of colostrum in cattle. Calves that received high colostrum levels gained better in feedlots, stayed in the herd longer, on and on. So.......managing these levels affect stayability epds, wda, on and on. The one well known Angus breeder that has 900# weaning weights and 1500# yearling weights has been concentrating on colostrum levels for 20 years. I thought this was interesting. I don't know if there is published data on this or not.

If a guy had 100 cows and then tubed each new born calf as it hit the ground.......20$ x 100 is additional 2,000 $ cost. But guess if you were selling 50,000$ bulls what the heck. It seems like this again is going against natural selection. But the one breeder apparently feeds silage to cattle on pasture to push up weaning weights also.
