Curious what commercial breds are selling for in other parts of the country.

Our local salebarn had their first special bred sale on Monday of this week.  Bred heifers ranged from $1350 to $1840.  At $1800, there will be well over $2000 in those pairs by the time they go to grass next spring.  Not much room for error on commercials at that price.

Any other reports?

I just sold three feeders last week. ranging in weight  515 , 562 and  842. I received $1.30, $1.28, $0.89. Surprisingly the calf that weighed 842 was 89/lb.

bred hfrs around here are at $1150-$1300.. with futures saying fats in the $1.30's this next yr, it seems like the breds are the best deal rite now around here.

Bred hfrs here are making $1000 to $1350 which is the best money we have seen for a while. Pairs making upto $1800 (6 month calves) most around $1200 to $1500. I sold bred hfrs due March April for export to Kazakhstan last week for $1500. Fats are making between $900 and $1400

Took a load of fat's out to Dodge CIty, Kansas a week and a half ago and they averaged 1282 live weight and got a average live price of $1.28 a lb.  So still pretty good - better than the salebarn for sure!  Commercial bred heifers are $1,000 - $1600 depending on quality.  Still waiting on my crystal ball in the mail to see if they are a good deal or not! ;)

I had some heavy bred Angus heifers (Ohlde type) priced to me for $1800 a piece a couple of weeks ago.  Probably worth every penny of it.

Our feedlot customers are telling us they are budgeting to be paying upwards of $2.00/lb for 600 lb steers next summer.

If you need females and can feed them, you better buy them now.  If it ever rains in Texas next spring common ones will cost you $2000+.  Half the cows in TX have been sold off - and that's probably not far off target.

I went to Pieper Red Angus sale last month. They sold 270 head of commercial red angus bred heifers that day.  The a.i. bred ones brought 2500/head. the march calvers brought 2400 and the april calvers brought around 2350.  We bought a group of bred heifers out of colorado for 1750, blacks bred black and a group of angus bred cows for 2000/head and they are good rips, they are papered but we dont get the papers for that price, they came from Conneally's.
We sold a pot load of replacement heifers weighing 550 for 1020/head (50 over steer price).
I agree that with all prices considered, breds are the best deal in the country and that if texas/oklahoma/kansas gets healed up from the drought, prices will soar even higher. <cowboy>
