Genetics can be different and influence where fat lays on an animal. To me the animal in question looks like a lot of the donor cows that I have dealt with that have the pon fat but not as much rib cover. I think she is doing just fine being on pasture and making a living, depending on where you live she could be ideal. My problem with a lot of shorthorns is that they put on fat the way that that cow does and then without the rib fat they freeze to death in the winter, of course the extra hair helps but not always. By the way, nice looking cow! And to the original poster..lovely cow herd! I especially like the roan bull calf that is facing right on the profile, just a solid animal.
