Real nice article on JIT & his farm in the Herd Bull issue of Shorthorn Country.

Also real interesting article on Ayrshire Farms in VA.

I liked the entire issue. I'd love to breed Studer's Big John to a mature Rob Sneed cow, then breed the resulting heifer to Captain Obvious.
Albaugh's Apache bull looks like a cow-maker. I'd like to breed him to some Dover/7026/Mission-type stuff. Lotsa ways a feller with my inclination  can go lately. Kaper and Loving's sires are impressive, as is the "IMF" bull being sampled at Waukaru.

modification: JIT and Captain LeRoy make an awesome duo. Both look pretty sound and deep-middled.

Great article about Gerald, Grant and Chris in Shorthorn Country.
I have been to their place a few times.
I grew up not far from there.
The people in southern Saskatchewan are real genuine people.
What you see is what you get and what you get is usually great.
Coffee pot is always on and there is time for a chat any time.
They also happen to grow some good crops and cattle in that area.
Oil is now the key crop and I am sure it is going to change the area.

Country is not available on line. Too many of us collect it, keep all the pages from bending, some have it in leather bond magazine holders and hide it when the 3 yr old nephew comes to visit. It's a cult like group that subscribe to the country.
I love the gals at the country and the job they do- great place to advertise.

I dont have my either!!!!

Great article, JIT!!  Interesting to see how the Horseshoe folks had to adapt over the years!!  Love the picture of JIT and Major Leroy!!

The Studer article is really good as well.  Great Shorthorn family with great cattle!!

If I have time, I may have to visit  Ayrshire Farm while I'm in D.C. in a couple of weeks!!

Still have not got mine! 3 relatives in the postal service here and I can't get that thing! Funny how my bills don't show up this late.
There are a lot of Postmen and women in the Midsouth and lower Midwest (aka Fescue Country) with 25 to 50-head cow herds. That's my conspiracy theory.

My conspiracy theory is my brother and all his fellow postal carriers around here spend to much time at the bar for lunch watchin sportscenter tellin each other how hot it is out there. Maybe tommorrow. Keep the faith. (angel)

Sorry, aj.... I don't have any oil rights so I still have to rely on my cows to survive. I get some surface lease income which helps but the cows are still the most important thing here. There are lots of farmers here that do have some oil right income and it has set them up pretty good. I know one farmer a few miles from me, gets a million a week from his oil revenue. He still has 500 black cows and farms a pile of land. I can guarantee you that if I had that coming in, I might still have a few cows, but I would be raising them a little differently.
