Cooler

Is it possible to take a walk in cooler shell and install just a 25000 btu air conditioner and cool bot and make this work?  We currently have an old milkhouse we are using and have installed the 25000 btu air conditioner and cool bot but we are not getting it very cool and it is a cement floor with some cracks.  We think the cement is why we cannot get it cool enough and we also use this room for other things and do not want to put the cattle in it this year.  It takes a lot of cleaning as the amona smell gets horrible.  Any suggestions appreciated.

If your old milkhouse was anything like our old milkhouse( cement block walls with a cement floorand a so so drop ceiling) your R factor for insulation is next to zero.  The walk in cooler shell should be a great improvement over what your using now. 

As for the ammonia odor, putting down a liberal dusting of barn lime before whatever bedding you use and frequently changing out the entire bedding will help. Also, exhaust fans help circulate the air to keep it cooler and cut down on the fumes. Good luck!
