My vet gave me me the cosequin asu plus joint supplement for mycalf that has OCD and after looking at it it says DO NOT FEED TO CATTLE but the ingredients dont seem harmful could it just be because there is a withdrawl time ...? or does anyone know if this is okay to use on cattle?

I had a steer last year get COD in all reality there is basically nothing you can do. I rubbed his legs with ice water and walked him every day twice a day and not matter what i did it just seemed to get worse the thing that helped the most was to stick a needle in that puss pockets on the inside of his hind legs and drain the fluid. My show was in August he devepoled it in April i did everything i could but it got to the point where he couldnt even walk so we had him butchered in July. Believe me i know how bad that sucks and i hope you have better luck then i did.

Only way to know it is OCD is thru xrays and you did not say which joint.

It has not been approved for use in cattle.  That being said, it is the ONLY product of it's kind that has been truely studied and shown to help joint issues in horses and dogs.  The key to cartilage health is glucosamine.  This product has the right sized molecular glucosamine that is readlily absorbed  by the animal.  GLC5500 has also been shown to increase the blood supply to cartilage and it has all 4 types of glucosamine in pharmacutical grade quality.  Both are expensive and we have seen them work on our horses and have used the GLC on our cattle.   GLC is not harmful to us and we and our extende family eat the beef.
Now do not expect results overnight.  OCD if it is advanced is a problem and hard to get them sound.  OCD found early can be treated with decent success but it takes 3-5 weeks for any of these feed thrus to get into the body and start to work.  The other problem is if you want to jackpot then you are still feeding a show ration and pulling some feed would certainly help the issue.  If you can lay off for 6 weeks your calf might just come around.  I think we will hear of OCD more and more as a diagnosis in cattle.    As a horse person first, I am oftern asked by my cow friends what we use for soundness. These 2 products work as products that promote joint health but you really need an xray to determine how severe the OCD is and if it is even possible to help them.  Hope you have success with it but be patient, won't happen overnight if it does work.

The label says DO NOT FEED TO CATTLE therefore DO NOT FEED TO CATTLE

I have no idea why it says DO NOT FEED TO CATTLE - it may be that the compounds are broken down in the rumen and therefore not effective or it may be that the rumen microbes make it into something unpleasant or toxic

This product is not a prescription drug - it is not considered a drug - it is broad-spectrum joint support supplement for horses, therefor the whole ELDU, AMDUCA does not apply and it is impossible to determine a withhold for this stuff.

herfluvr - this product is a supplement not a drug - supplements are not regulated like drugs, supplements do not get FDA "approval",  and dogs and horses are not cattle - each species is different and promoting the use of something in a horse because it works in a guinea pig is not a good idea

Good for you for reading the label - bad for your vet for not reading the label

DO NOT FEED TO CATTLE
