County fair health papers?

Any of your country fairs require health papers? We have always had vet check in all animals after they all get there. In this day in this world as a superintendent I think health papers would be better? Would add some cost to kids but some of these kids never work with a vet either and would get a relationship going with them too.

Our county has a vet checking them at the gate, mostly for vesicular stomatitis, which will be evident around the nose and mouth.  If we required health papers from an on site inspection at home, the vets in this county would be running for 2 weeks doing health inspections and little else.  I do not know of anything in our county that has actually been rejected at the gate or after being on the fair grounds for health reasons.

We have around 80 calves, 300 hogs, 100 lambs and 40 goats at fair for market plus the breeding animals that show the week prior, drawing from a county of around 4500 square miles. With 17 4-H clubs, with close to as many FFA chapters placed throughout the county. I do not think our vets, the few in the area that practice on livestock would appreciate that. The staff that run the livestock area are all livestock oriented and do a good job of sifting through the animals at weigh in and throughout the fair, as well as We have a local large animal vet clinic that has a vet on the fairgrounds 24/7 during market week, they are pretty darn good to. They are also there to do all the drug testing of division, grand and reserve champions.

I agree. I don't think requiring health papers for a county fair is the way to go. At ours the fair staff looks at each animal at weigh in. There is also a vet that will walk the isles just in case he sees something the staff didn't.

That's how we are doing it now. I can see the troubles with it. Just would be nice to be ahead of it if it's ever required by the state. But I think we will continue way it is.

We have our state fair the week following our county fair.  Our state fair requires health papers.  With most of the animals being at county fair that will go on to state fair, we have 2-3 vets that look at animals and issue health papers at county fair for those going on to state fair.

The vets in our area of Ohio said no.  We now have a vet hired by the fair board. She checks
everything after they are penned.

Down here in TN , they are required. #1- for the fair #2 for hauling them. 4 years ago I took some to the next county over(12 miles) for their fair, almost didn't get them but at last minute I did. This fair has maybe 50 head of cattle total show up and the state vet showed up to check every paper and every tattoo.

Same here. Just happened to stop by vets office on the way to our county show and they offered inspect the steers and issue a health certificate. State vet showed up there as well.
