I have 2 questions I figured I would put in the same posts to make it easier. First I have 2 heifer calves that I kept back for replacements. Because of pasture conditions caused by the drought, I had to put them back with their mothers. They were away for 9 or 10 weeks, don't know exactly but now it was at least 9 weeks, any chance of the cow not being dried totally up? When I first put them back both of the cows butted them heifer calves away from them but wanted to make sure anyway. Both cows are re bred back also.

Second question I have is to see if anyone has ever had a bull that was too short to service his cows? Just wondering cause I have a clubby bull calf that I am keeping a bull to use as a clean up and will be shorter than most of my cows, even when he is mature I'm sure cause I have several PB Maine's that are very tall and some PB shorthorns that are very tall also. Even with him being shorter do you think he will be able to service the cows as a clean up bull, never came across this issue as this is my 1st clubby clean up bull. I know walks alone is short even as a mature bull so I would think he would be as tall as him when mature, don't know how tall my bull will be as a yearling this coming spring as that is when he will 1st be used as a clean up bull. Just don't know cause at this point there is no way but I' sure he will put height on over the next 6 to 8 months before breeding season. Just hoping even if he is shorter, he finds a way to get the job done, just don't know as I have never dealt with this before.

Thanks for any information on these 2 questions.

I have a 2 1/2 yr. Walks Alone bull that has a hip ht. @ 501/2".  Has been with my Maine cows this summer and getting the job done. Was funny to watch at first as he couldn't figure out which end to work on but he was a fast learner.

I also have a moderate shorthorn bull. Most of the cows are close to his size. BUT I have a couple cows that are big gals. Nature has a way of compensating for this. He has bred everyone so far. Believe me the one cow he hops but the plumbing seems to be long enough to get it done. ;)  If you have a bunch of open cows I might worry, but we have not had an issue.
