Once again I hauled a cow 11 hours to S W Nebraska to a little known (by many) ET opperation. We unloaded the cow and went about our business, the next morning as I was preparing to leave, we looked the cow over again and saw she had a serious problem. From all outward signs it appeared that she had twisted a gut on the ride and would be 4 feet up in the air within 24 hours. I loaded her back on the trailer and took her to cowboys local vet on my way home ( figured that would save him from disposing of the carcass). Quint took a look at her and pretty much came up with the same prognosis. I left from there to head on home figuring that all I would end up with was a vet bill. To make a long story short, the cow recovered ( still recovering under cowboys watchful eye) and today flushed 12 #1  embrios and 6 #2 embrios. I can't wait to see what happens on the next cow's flush ( LOL! the first one that he will flush for me that doesn't - knock on wood - have issues) ! It's a long drive out there from here but 36 grade #1 embrios out of two cows that shouldn't have worked makes it worth it. Thanks Terry!  RW

He goes by Cowboy on here(Terry Morris) He is a great guy, and defiantly knows his stuff! RW the younger donor you had at Terry's is a HOSS!, I had never seen a cow that is that deep! <beer>

She is a tank - When I talked to Terry today he wasn't sure he could reach deep enough  to flush her! Last time I weighed her she was nursing a 700# calf on pasture and looked just like you saw her out there, she'll go a ton pretty easy. RW

maaaaannnnn... he does do good work... HOWEVER... watch out if he knows where you work... otherwise, if he needs something, hell corner you there!! AND DURING LUNCH!!.. hehe

That's what he said when I was there, asked if he could barrow my dads arm lol. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if she weighs that much!

If it was a DA you can roll them side to side on their back and it will correct most of the time.

On another note, I will be trying Terry's work at the end of June on some Angus embryos he collected for 6M Ranch.

The sign on the road says :  End of the earth - 10 miles,  Cowboy's place  12 miles....  just kidding. That is an actual sign on a highway a few miles from Scobey, Montana. It is an official highway sign and it says End of the earth 10 miles,    Scobey, Montana - 12 miles.  A friend of mine from Illinois has been to our place a few times when we have been very dry, and he has said on each visit" if I was going to give the world an enema, I would put the needle right about here".

I wish I lived closer to the cowboy. I would love to give him some work. Maybe if I find a good cooperator herd in the US in the next few years, I may have a chance to hunt him down.

I am flushing 4 older cows tomorrow and I would be happy with half as many as Cowboy got from you. So far we have done OK and have 39 embryos from 4 flushes, but two of these flushes were from problem cows that have been flushed too often, and are close to the end of the road. One of my donors who averaged 27 grade 1's in 6 flushes and then bred back immediately following the last flush, has been flushed for the first time this year, and she produced 11 grade 1's. After averaging 27, 11 feels almost a washout. It is easy to get greedy in this business, and a person has to remind themselves constantly as to what is best for the donor... not yourself. And it is much easier to write about the success stories than the complete train wrecks. There are enough complete train wrecks in the ET game to keep you grounded and close to reality... and the invoices from the ET center help with that as well.

You are most welcome RW -- these are the days that we all need on occasion, it took a while to get her to come back from the brink. She looks now like a different cow, and whatever made her go off the deep end on her way out here -- seems to be long gone. It was a scary sight to see her with green slime coming from both nostrils that next morning, I really thought she was a goner.

After reading some of the comments, I felt I needed to thanks every one for taking the time to write in. I don't always get the chance to thank those that need thanked. If it weren't for RW's trust, we would have almost -0- cows here now. The area I am in is just not high on ET cows, all but 2 donors on the place right now are form Iowa!! That says something, I love it here -- but realize I am just not in the right spot to ever get as busy as I need to be.

The good flushes like this one are easy to talk about, and as JIT says above, there are flushes and donors that are just not good, you can't tell some times which cows will make you look good or just flat make you wish you were in a different business -- I've been there and will be again I am sure.


I don't have a fancy steel pen system, I don't have an air-conditioned flush barn, not even a covered chute -- but what I do have is lots of time and desire to do as good as we can for YOU -- these cows tell me what to do, I don't tell them. I works -- and I do love my job!!

Some time before I quit -- I want to have an open house type of get together and just get as many of you to come up and we'll just have a weekend long BBQ -- I can only hope I don't have to shoot one of the donors to keep the grill going !!! heheheheh

Hey Terry, I know you're probably tempted to shoot "63" for that BBQ, but you'll have to deal with my girls if you do... ;D

Good for you RW. (clapping)  Terry does an excellent job.  If you want all the Bells and Whistles you may want to go elsewhere.  If you want a real Cowboy taking care of your genetics with good old common sense involved, give Terry a call.

RSC - Exactly right! Personally results impress me. Whistles and bells can be pretty annoying. The thing I like is that it doen't matter if your cow needs bred at 2 a.m. or 2 p.m. that is when she gets bred, not at punch in time or punch out time when everybody goes home for the day like alot of places do. RW
