There is probably a better trick, but I put my lick tubs or mineral block near the creep feeder to get the cows close to it and the calves get nosey enough they find it themselves.

Both comments so far are very good. The creep needs to be located where the cow congregate a lot; by the tanks, mineral, feed bunks. Also you need to start out with a very palatable feed. We use our show feed that we feed in the show barn. When it's time to start breeding cows is when you need to start considering putting out creep.

all sounds good. we have it placed between the mineral feeder and feed bunk for cows. and the oldest calf is just a month old so may be a lil early yet. so i just put a couple handfuls in.

one thing i was told to do was to place straw near it for bedding so the calves will come to the straw and bed down for a safe place to be and will then see the feed.

we leave creep feed out as soon as they start hitting the ground. We do bed the creep feeder with straw and in the summer make a cover for shade. usually the calves will find it and go right too it. I work with the local mill and get a good creep ration to start them on. Most of our babies start on their own.
