Anyone have any ideas as to why Dakota Gold brought $60/unit on MLC's online semen sale the other night while it brought $26/unit on Lautner Farms online semen sale the same night. Just curious as to whether something has happened to the bull.

He was hard to get all summer I finally got mine right when I was done breeding. I'm thinking it's people that like to spend money that are buying these bulls at high dollar. Bought BC Lookout last summer for $25 from Genex and online was bringing $200. Don't make any sense to me.

If a person goes to almost any of the semen suppliers it is priced @ $30.00/unit. I just don't get the logic behind some of the prices PPL are paying for everyday readily available bulls.

You should never fully trust online auctions.  I would say plenty of semen lots never actually sell they are trying to artificially inflate the price of a certain bull.  It doesn't really cost them anything to put in phantom bids and it's very easy to do.  Just ask and they'll do it for you.  If no one bites and it doesn't sell, no big deal.  But then they can say "hey it sold for 60 online" and try to justify raising regular sale prices when they can.  I'm sure I've paid for some of this a few time but in the long run, I think it will be an issue for online sale companies.

Live auctions have never been on the up and up either, but I consider online auctions to be a complete fraud.  Basing any decisions on what anything brings on an online auction is just impossible or foolish.  I have gone to places and looked at calves, asked what it would take to get something bought, been run past that price, and then been called later wanting to know if I'd buy it for what I asked about originally.  Multiple places.
