Diamond M.., If your steer has actual Dandruff in the clinical sense it is actually a fungus and needs to be treated like a fungus.  If the calf has dry flaky skin (not clinical Dandruff) than that is obviously a different issue.  If it is actual dandruff you may consider using a antifungal wash of sorts and I know in humans you would work that antifungal in and let it sit for some time (15 minutes) before rinsing.  Frequent use is key.  As I am sure you are aware, if it is just dry skin I surely wouldn't be using soap on the calf very often.  Good luck.

I had one with bad dry skin and I started using conditioner on her whenever I washed her. I buy V05 at Wal-Mart and it is about 98 cents per bottle. Also using actual shampoo is better than dish soap, especially if you are having skin problems. I have found that washing frequently with dish soap made mine even more flaky! Good luck!  ;D

We have a steer with really bad dandruff. He gets washed about 3 times a week. Any other suggestions?

After ever wash spray with a mixture of Kleen Sheen, Vinegar and Rag Oil. You can also use Double Dip. IF its really cold where you are you can also use Revive. Revive will get rid of the dryness in a matter of days. Vinegar helps balance the pH and will reduce the flakes. I also like to add a little Mane and Tail to the mixture but not necessary. You can dilute infusium with some water and spray and blow dry. Just have to watch with some of the conditions you do not go too far the other way and loose your "fluff". Save your Kleen sheen jugs and buy the concentrate to save again on money. It doesn't take much rag oil but you will notice a huge difference in the coat and skin.

Make sre they are getting rinsed thoughly. A little bit of soap left in can cause dandruff. I use white rain shampoo but when we get in to show season we use sullivans. Kleen sheen, Revive and other conditioners help greatly.
