Anyone have any ideas on getting a show heifer back on track? She was doing great on her feed but we hauled her to a show in Utah this past weekend. We also opened a new bag of feed when we got back and she won't touch it. I gave her just beet pulp and she'll eat it just fine but add in a little bit of the grain and she turns her nose up to it. Our next show is in 10 days but if she doesn't get going then we'll have to stay home.

Since nobody else has responded,  I will take a stab at it.    Simple things first.  Maybe this new bag of grain is moldy or "sour",  or maybe with too many fine particles.  Second,  maybe she has had a little too much grain recently and is suffering from sub-acute acidosis,  in which case it will take a little time and more fiber to get the rumen healthy again.  Finally,  sometimes these will respond nicely to 30cc of B Complex Forte daily for several days,  or even Vitamin B12 at 10,000 units daily for a few days.    Questions:  how much does she chew her cud and what is the character of her manure?

Thanks for the reply. The reason came down to the company that made the ration switched from their summer molasses to their winter molasses. I'm guessing adding some oil (soybean maybe) so that it would flow better or not freeze. Luckily we were able to get another bag of the same feed with the summer molasses (which she gobbled down) and now we're switching her over slowly.

I prefer Sweet & Glo but switch over to Double S for Winter. Sweet and Glo results in molasses balls once colder weather arrives ??? Glad you got it figured out. Good luck with her  ;)
