My daughter showed her heifer today. She is 10 months and has been doing so well at shows. My daughter did have issues with her leading previously but with increased training and showing she has been near about perfect the last month, maybe a little more....until today. She was actually behaving perfectly until just before the show. My daughter's first class, toward the exit she started acting up. ..got away from my daughter. Then after her 2nd class she was very naughty and basically throwing a big fit acting like she was going to run away. The only thing that was new was about an hour or two before her show we tried some new feed..chaffhaye alfalfa hay. I thought could it be possible that caused a change in her. I don't know much about it other than she ate it up!! Anyone heard of this??...scared to give it to her now.

Cattle can sense when you get nervous around them... It is possible your daughter was getting nervous about going into the ring, and the calf reacted to her nervousness. Then because she got away the first time, the second time you had 2 things working against you: 1. The heifer knew she could get away, and 2. your daughter was probably even more scared/nervous because she knew the heifer could get away. I've never heard of that product, so I can't comment on it. Might just take some more time working with the calf, and getting both of them comfortable with each other again.
