Evan,

Cory Thomsen (c 605-730-2397) of Bushy Park Farm would be the person to ask.  I would be surprised if they have sexed any semen as Hard Drive has worked equally well to produce bulls and heifers.  Our experience has been that you do need a cow that is deep in the flank and twist to balance him out.  We are moving to BPF BLACK DIAMOND 680U (Hard Drive x Chill Factor purchased by Launter Farms) as it appears he may be better in this regard.  I still wouldn't hesitate to use Hard Drive on the right cow as he can consistently add thickness, bone and hair.

Ken

Does anyone know if they have sexed female semen on Hard Drive and if they do where can you get it?
Thanks Evan

jbzdad,

Thanks for posting this information.  I may consider some heifer semen on Serious Business in the future if his birth weight EPD comes down over the next year.

Evan,

We don't always record birth weights so I can't quote actual numbers.  We have had 13 calves over two calf crops with Hard Drive bred to mature cows.  Under normal feeding conditions we have consistently had unassisted births on crossbred clubby oriented cows.  The first year we used him we made the mistake of feeding hayage during the last trimester and had calving problems with about every bull we bred to.  This past year we were back to mostly dry hay and had no problems.  His calves do come with some bone and stoutness so I personally wouldn't use him on heifers.  Again, Cory would probably be your best source of information on what to expect.

One comment I'll add is that the semen quality of Hard Drive has been excellent for us.  The 13 calves came from 15 straws of semen used.
