I am willing to bet one of the participants think they deserved more because they worked harder and paid more for their animal than the others.

Do you really think so? Or is it just the way you feel when that happens to you, BTDT?

We've been lucky to make the Jr. auction a couple of times in the past and they have a pool that is held & used to make all of the animals bring the average, so if you happen to be last in the order your animal will still bring the average price of the sale. Good idea B/C everyone can't be  first.

how is the pool financed?  is every bid price guaranteed to exchange hands, ie so the average bid can't be faked?

It's been more than a little while ago since we showed @ Denver, but if I remember correctly the pool is funded by donations from the area or whoever wants to contribute. I also don't know for sure whether or not the champions and RGCs are included in the average. We actually were the last animal through the ring at the time and we were showing swine. That particular year they started with the heavies & worked down to the LWTs. We had won the first class. All class winners made the sale at that time. That was approximately 20 years ago give or take a year. I don't know about rafter bibbers, but it seemed at the time to be more on the up & up to me.
