aj, if your calves are as good as sue says, which I believe they are, you should have NO problem moving them in Denver. Those bulls on black cows will turn a profit and thats the bottom line. If you want, I can come help you and sue in Denver. I work cheap!

Trevor....that might work. Calvin....it took me a while to figure out who milliron was. The corner is on its last leg. It is for sale. Its got one of those fitted tarp roofs on it. I have heard alot of people mention the corner. It really is a landmark. Especially if you think back before I-70 went through in the 1960's. Before interestate most of the Denver to say Kansas city traffic went within 30 yards of the "Corner". Now the traffic rocket sleds by 2 miles outside of town down I-70. I heard they had 3 go-go girls that worked a stint there in the 60's till Stranad married the one. The other two left I guess. Stranad had half the town ticked off at him. The other half thought he was a saint. Brewster is kinda on its last leg. 9 girls in high school.....freshman thru seniors. Bigger farm equipment less people I guess. Maybe I should buy the corner and base my Black Hide Myth Assc out of it. I could call it "The houseof the rising hot sun....or something. ;D

The whole Shorty deal at Denver will be effected by the off year. They may not even have that sale. L'ville will be huge !
Will numbers be down big time??? My wife wants to go with two or three head but will the shorthorn people still be there???
Had thought about just putting them on display as I am sure that a no name foreigner will probably get dumped in the show regardless of cattle quality :-\ :-\

Hilltop.... there is usually still over 100 head in the show on the hill in years when it is not a National show.... sometimes even more. There have also been 70-80 bulls in the yards the past few years with good trade occuring.  I would strongly suggest that if you are planning on going, to enter and show. You will get noticed. The thing I really like about the Denver show is the total atmosphere and what happens in the show ring is not all that happens there. The competition will be pretty deep regardless of the numbers, and there will still be a good  crowd there. Personally, I think a person's first trip to Denver with cattle is probably best done in a year when it is not a National show.
As for being a no name foreigner, that really doesn't count for much as I think your cattle will change that in very short order. Going to Denver is much more than winning ribbons. It is also about getting seen and promoting your program.

One thing to watch for out here is a group of vicious renegade armed cows. Check out the song "Cows with guns" by Dana Lyons. Yowie. ;D

Hilltop, Don't get me wrong - there will still be lots of cattle out there. The Shorty Show will be down sonme b/c it's not the National Show this year but there will still be lots of bulls traded in the yards and all. Feel sure Jungels will be there among others. It is a great experience just to go - seeing the Clubby bulls in the yards on MLK weekend is a pretty cool deal. In the past they have sometimes not had the Shorty Sale during the off year but, it was under different management last year so maybe they will.FWIW, I love going period whether there's a sale or not.

We have never been there before so we are hoping to link up with someone to make the trip so we are not totally lost there. Not sure with work if I can go with Momma or not.
Would it be hard to get around for NEWBIE'S there or does it just sound more intimidating?

IMO if the sale and numbers are just as big if not bigger on a "off year", then to me that shows we are moving in the right direction. With another nuke bomb just landing on the Black Angus deal again in the last few days(Fawn Calf). Shorties are lookin better and better. We have already had our war with defects. If the data keeps coming in on how good the tenderness is on shorties, then Kaitie bar the door. <party> <rock>

I have ideas of Shorties on Herefords, red angus, black angus, simmentals, and maines. We are the last ingredient IMO. When you look at all the good bulls people mentioned on here in the topic "for shorthorn folks" it gives me hope that good days are ahead. I have ran all the breeds mentioned above and had local people with no clue about cattle eat them. BY FAR AND AWAY the best reviews have come from the shorthorn/ red angus cross. I'm being told it melts in your mouth. I love it but I'm biased. Now I'm using a son of 034 on those crosses. His tenderness data is unbelievable IMO. We have the tools before us, will we use them? I hope so. I will have a two month old baby come January but am still planning on coming to Denver. The boss says it's ok! It will be my 36th birthday and I would love to meet everyone I have talked with here on SP.  <beer>

By the way, I'm just a little fish with big dreams, but you got to start somewhere. I have seen first hand the amount of money black angus is making. Mind boggling. We can do it to!
I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but I think about this stuff all the time and shorthorn is my horse in the race!
