He is by a bull called Sondown (Sonny x Double Down's full sib) and his dam is a JBS Frosty (Steermaker x JBS Puma II) back on Deerpark Leader 13th. Not very well known blood-lines up front, but goes back to some good ones.

Looks pretty straight, coarse, and chuffy fronted...  But still could have his place on quite a few of the Shorthorn cows I have seen across the country in the past few years.. Like his demo and bone..

Either the picture is bad or you have some structure issues.  From this picture he is way too straight on those back wheels and standing underneath himself.  Nice hair

It is kind of a hard angle to get a good look at him. He looks pretty course fronted but it could just be the angle. Is he TH and PHA free?

I have not had him TH/PHA tested yet, but his sire is clean and his dam should be clean be pedigree. I think I should have used a different pic. It's funny most people who have seen him in person, the first things they comment about him is how smooth shoulders, long fronted, and how he has great flex to his legs. I guess that's why I am not a professional photographer.

I'm like the others, his shoulders look course, so if people think that he's pretty smooth in person, that tells me the photo angle is bad.  Take some more photos... I'd like to see some different angles.

You definitely got some better pictures of him. I really like his coloring and the amount of hair he has. I think being too straight is a hard trait and seems to run a lot in the shorthorn breed. We've had several born that way. However we have a very straight heifer that won numerous shows so it's not impossible to do well with him. I'd definitely use structurally correct heifers/cows when breeding him. Maybe you can get some more curve with his calves.

I think its hard to tell from his pics . but he looks like a nice calf to me just pulling back on the halter a little. What gets me is the way some people jump on him and tell him how bad he is .But if your in the "clique" you can put a pic of a jersey gomer bull and they all say how awesome he is and will sure has a place in the industry. This ain't my fight , but imo people are way hard on this guy.

different, better angles yeild better results.. He's not so chuffy fronted anymore, but he's still to straight and coarse

I don't think this one is any worse structured than about 90% of the clubby crossbreds that you see promoted. The only difference is the fitting and photos, to me anyway

I agree, most bulls who are promoted are terrible structured, its almost as that is a requiremet to be a clubby AI bull??  Anyways, I was stating an opinion to someone who asked for one...  This bull isn't the savior to the Shorthorn world, but he could have his place on most cows.  I haven't seen him in person, haven't seen him walk, and most likely won't ever...  Pictures are pictures, some make animals look bad, some can make a animal look knock-out-- way better than in person...  This calf is super hairy, might be the hair that makes him look coarse, might not be.. Who knows...  There's alot of bulls that won't get used in my operation because they don't fit the bill in terms of structure and flex...  Maybe if i was raising bannana/chicken legged Angus's.. I would use a straight, coars legged one, but I dont' have that kind.  Sure I have some straight ones at home, you can't have Shorthorns without having a straight one or 2, but I can guarentee she won't be getting bred to anything that doesn't at least meet his track, and possess the correct angles off both ends.  I am not going to use a straight one, just becuase he is straight.

I have said it, will say it, and always will say it... Just about every bull has his place in the industry, they just most likely 99% of the time won't be the savior.

I think if you can't take an honest opinion you shouldn't post a picture on an open forum, he (or she) asked what we thought, we told them, I would assume people buy cattle they like, my opinion shouldn't change what they need in their operation.

Ok, his reg # is:*4146894, I want to thank all of you who have responded to this post. I appreciate all the comments on the bull even the negatives about the bull. I know this bull well most likely never be promoted, and never be use by most/ if any other breeds, but I also know that if the bull is truly a great bull than he will find a way to make an impact, I mean how many people knew about or used Jake's Proud Jazz or CF Trump their first year. Bulls have a way of making there own legacy.

Like
length of body
hairy guy
nice butt
got some bone
clean neck and sheath

Don't like
leg set
the slope of the front shoulder, he is more bold in his shoulder development than I like

Pictures are one dimensional and are not a good representation of stock sometimes. I sit for hours sometimes shooting 50 pics just to get one or two that might flatter my calves. I must have missed the Jersey Post. Jersey's are sure becoming popular on here. This may become more of a dairy forum yet. Calving ease and service sires. ;)

I am not sure what "clique" you are referring too, but I think most people who ask for honest opinions will be open to the truth. Whether you like it or not folks are honest here. Go to some of the other forums and look how folks post feedback. Kids who never owned a bull in their life get on and tear it up.This forum is one of the most honest ones I have been on. I am cautious about what I post as there are some pretty good critters on here. What I post represents my herd.  Lots of us don't have a "name" at all. When we post a picture I expect you to tell me how they look. I posted in the for sale ads and have had success but was honest right up front about plus and minus of my animals. Any feedback in my mind is welcome. How do i know if I am making the right kind to sell if I don't get some negative comments. That is how we learn and see what others may see we don't.

I would have to agree with Jill. If you don't' want an honest opinion then don't' ask for it.

I don't think that anyone was to hard on him.  From the first pict. especially he looks way to straight.  I agree with most people if you don't want your animals torn apart then don't put them up on a public forum like this.  A while back I posted a pict of a heifer that I had and actually had my Karma taken away from me for it being HORRIBLE!!!!  I knew what I had and if someone else doesn't like it TOUGH!!!!  I breed for what I breed.  I put a different pict of her up and got mostly positive feedback on her.  So if you know that you have something good then that is all that should matter.
