What is everyone ones experience with this bull? Is he safe to use on mature cows? Looks like all the calves he has registered are good sized with some monsters thrown in there. Getting ready to breed in a couple weeks and have access to some semen on him as well as damn proud.

I had a cow that it would have been her 3rd calf and we had to end up doing a c-section on her. The calf was 130lbs and we lost it but saved the cow. I will definately not breed back to him.

There was a thread on here sometime back. Posted a few calves one of the owners. I saw the bull when he saw at Duis Farms dispersal. He is thick and has some bone. His pedigree carries some weight. I have heard of few experience mentioned above. Not so much about weight but shape of the calves. They are square made etc.
What are your cows? What are their pedigrees? What do you want out of them - show or replacements?

Had a heifer this February...really stout, hairy, n square made.  Bigger calf, no problems having it, calf die a few days later. Had autopsy n it died from some viral deal the cow had contracted n given the calf...no fault of the bull. Neighbor is raising a very good steer for fair. He is pretty ideal in his kind. I would not use him on heifers as they are not shaped for use in heifers. Definitely more of the powered up show cattle kind, too extreme for most commercial guys I would guess.

There are bulls in every breed that wouldn't work in certain situations.  If somebody likes Talladega and wants to use him, what do you care?  I think the thread was started with the question of how he worked in herds with experience using him, not whether he was the universal answer to everyone's breeding program.  I've seen the bull.  He was very impressive.  If my goal was to produce a certain kind of calf, I'd sure use him in some situations.  Personally, I'd rather use him than the THC bull.  There are plenty of good Shorthorn bulls that would be more than well suited for the "beef" industry.

abs guy that breeds for me said he had some of him but looked like he could be a hard calver. Cow I was going to use him on is a Sin city Walks alone this would be her third calf. She is pretty moderate framed.First calf was a little heifer by brilliance 70 lbs dripping wet and this years calf was by Django probably 85 lb bull calf nice calf came out easy. Trying to raise club calves but also don't have enough cows to want to deal with c sections

As far as something to use on her-there are a number of good thick clean (th pha) bulls. Oakview would be a good one for suggestions: he has alot of years producing thick cattle-and they've gotta be good in Iowa. Another person with some really good bulls is Brad Davis-also in Iowa, or Mitch on here. All you have to do is configure a type-she sure seems to have the right breeding. Out of shameless self promotion-Brad owns and a bunch of others have used a bull I bred called UB-DMCC Top Fuel. hes linebred to the Cumberland cow family,an easy calver-and really works on clubbie bred cattle.Better than on non-clubby for some reason. The picture is when he was a calf in the pen-hes run real hard ever since.O0

Aj, I'm no expert on EVERYTHING in the whole world like you are...I was only trying to say that I really like the bull and what he has done from my experience.  I agree that show cattle often have very little practicle use in the commercial setting, from my understanding I have always thought you never want any extreme in a commercial setting.  Show cattle are extreme, in any one direction or another, that's what sets them apart from a common type cattle, that's what catches a judges eye.  There are so many things that you do with show cattle to make them look are certain way that are fairly stupid in my opinion, but my family and I along with many others in this country enjoy the time spent and the lessons learned while doing these silly things. There are a tremendous amount of shorthorn cattle out there that work great in a commercial environment, (even those environments that exists outside of where you live), which I'm sure you are convinced there is no such place outside of your own little world.  THAT is why SHORTHORN cattle are a GREAT breed of cattle.  Same old story, do what you want, others can do what they want.

Just had a calf out of a mature Angus cow, calf was really big plus built like a block. Tough calving. Love the look of the calf, should make a good steer but won't use again. I don't mind big calves. But this one was a little too big.
