Here is one of the two full sib April 2012 bulls that we have. They are both sired by DF Waco (now deceased) and out of our Australian outcross donor WF Athena W50 (also deceased). This is tag 213 and tag 211 is very similar in type. They were going to go to the Ohio Beef Expo but decided not to. Let me know what you think...

behind view?

Either the shoulder, or for-rib needs work from this angle, in my eyes...

interesting pedigree, might really work with some time... (pop)

I agree his shoulder isn't the calving ease type. He had about 5 inches of hair all over him. Those legs have no glue in them, they just had 5 inches of hair we took off. We are amature clippers also. So the front end was completely ripped off a week ago and then we tried to blend in the shoulders and didn't turn out very good. So some of what you are seeing is the lack of blending properly.

You could use a guard on his neck and shoulders to blend also if you don't feel comfortable with just a blade  ;D

Thanks Sue! Athena produced until she was over 13 years old and one of her best flushes was her last the winter before she died. The Thelma cow family is pretty touted in Australia as real performers from what I have heard. I think these bulls are pretty special and unique..

really makes the bull look better from this angle... shoulder lays in nice enough, and he's got some meat on those bones...

(clapping)

Interesting pedigree, should do you well...

PS, I'll take a heifer calf from that mating  ;)

I'll take a heifer calf out of any of my matings!!! Being that we are 7 for 7 bull calves this year so far! grrrrr! Oh well. Anyway jump on over to the classifieds if you like him.  ;)

Now Josh, I know you flushed with a bunch of sexed Waco semen last year-- and I'm guessing it wasn't male swimmers...

Sounds about right . Bulls 12 heifers 2 for me.  :-\
Wow! I guess I should count my blessings and hope for a better ratio than that... Sure makes it tough when you are trying to expand a herd and make changes.

Yeah we flushed with 4 sexed heifer straws and 1 conventional. The conventional seems to have been won on the first two pregnancies. That's why I never marketed the eggs as solely sexed heifer eggs... I've got one more still to go and I'm hoping it's a heifer because by the looks of the bull calves it's going to be a good one.

Ya but look at it like I do now-- easy to save money, and not have to pick which females to grow out and keep back ;)

For years, i bitched and bitched about not getting ewe lambs- finally decided ram lambs were so much better-- keep them until weaning- sort he great ones- and ship everything else.  Make money off them--  since, I've been getting quite a few ewe lambs born ;)  and man does the feed bill like it:  Feed's expensive, whether it's grass, hay, or grain O0

3 heifers so far this year. about 15 to go.

JTM

I think the bull demonstrates what most of us look for in a young herd sire- masculinity. I think over time he will grow into that shoulder which I think might be soften up with additional trimming after seeing rear angle. I like his head design and coloring. I also think he offers a much needed twist on infusing some out-cross genetics on his momma's side. Look forward to catching up with you all at Expo.
