Well it's been a while since I've checked in here - been a whirlwind few months - but it's great to see my favourite Okotoks locals on board!
Good to hear how well the Dottie cow is going, and that the father/daughter/sibling rivalry is still alive and well... and thanks for the history lesson- I for one enojyed it!!
Hey how are you doing! Are you coming back for some winter snow! How are the spring sales going?
I didn't know you had used Patent. That should be very interesting. What bloodline did you use him on?
Hi Dan, I'm doing okay, not liking the fact that it appears summer is getting here! I would love to come back for some more snow but my bank balance won't let me!!
We've had some good sales this spring.. much better than the ones in winter. If there's any specific ones you want to know about let me know, but there have been a couple average over AU$6000.
I've leased a couple of my cows to a friend who stayed with Jordan's last year and helped them at Denver. He managed to get some semen and thinks these couple of cows are pretty good so we came up with a deal  ;) The better cow is a Springwood Station female, by Broughton Park Baron 3 (a son of HWS Baron 91 from a TNT Fastrak 4U cow) and out of a Polldale Nashville (son of Wyarama Vicar) cow. The second cow is by Shadybrook Scotty and pretty tidy, good colour and constitution and looks just like all the Scotty's- you can tell she's Jackaroo's sister!!

I would be interested in some of the higher priced ones and the bloodlines that were getting the most interest. The Grove and Sprys, how were their sales? Are you still doing reports for for The Land?

Are you familar with the breeding on JTM's cow he mentions above by SPRYS Jackpot and out of a Narralda Thelma cow.Jackpot has a cross of Blue Ridge Tritan like the Grove Kookaburra!

Also check out the Sun Country Sale Catalogue thread, the link is there to the catalogue and Lot 3a and 3b are the baby calves we saw at Grant's!

Jackaroo is THE sire of the moment (in my oh-so-humble opinion!) If you're interested in semen in Canada, contact Okotoks

I had a look at the catalogue, those heifers look pretty good hey?! I think I remember being impressed by the roan even as a baby!
I'd need to know which Jackpot bull- there are a couple - and the Narralda cows are over in WA.

Yes, still at TL. There's no jobs going over your way are there?!

Spry's sale in August topped at $6500 and averaged $4617 for 35 bulls sold from 43. It was mainly commercial buyers.
The Grove topped at $37,000 for an appendix bull which was bought by Marellan/Royalla. They average $5657 for 95 bulls sold in a 99% clearance. The top bull was by TG Informant Y463 (his sire Informant U255 has done a good job IMO).

At other sales, Marellan Royalla sold 43 of 54 bulls to a top of $19,500 and averaged $6290, and Yamburgan sold 47 of 50 to a $17,000 top and averaged $6117.

Trust me to miss the 15 minute disclaimer! AJ you could always be the first to place an order for Diamond Prophecy 21P when we get him collected this fall/winter! Don't have the technology for credit cards but good old checks will do.

aj, if your serious go to my website and you will see two maternal gran sibllings to Narralda Thelma 10th selling at Greenhorn's on October 16th. Thanks. I have another grandaughter at our farm sired by Jake's Proud Jazz.  The heifer in my avatar is one of the maternal australian genetics heifers.

There's a new Dottie that might turn into a contender!. Yesterday at a small warm up show at Olds HSF Xenia Dottie 35X won a the heifer calf division. She's a white Salute out of Diamond Sunset Dottie 38S. 2nd place heifer was another Dottie, Creekside Dottie 2X from the Bishop's. She was a Paintearth Rama 53U out of Alta Cedar Dottie 42U(a daughter of Frimley Nan Dottie43N)
Paintearth Rama 53U won the two year old bulls and was grand champion. He was impressive and should be a contender at the later shows. The Reserve Champion was another impressive bull, JSF Addicted 82U a son of Jake's Proud Jazz 266L. He is owned by Kenlene.
Bred heifers was won by ACC Candy's Winegum 14W for Sadie Anwender. Anwender's also won bull calves with ACC Trooper 3X. He was getting a lot of notice.

Dan, Trooper isn't that good red calf we saw is he? I wondered how that bull had gone on...

No. ACC Trooper 3X is sired by ACC General the white Northern Legend 3N son. Trooper is a light roan born this year out of a RB Red Eagle Y2K cow that was out of an Eionmor Chief 16H cow. He is really stout with an amazing hair coat.

But wait......theres more. <beer>

there is always more aj especially when talking cattle, cattle families, and production.  I agree with thunderdownunder that General bull is pretty fantastic, I didn't see the son but from the amount of excitement my father and sister exhibited when describing him, he might just be one of the greats

Here's a sales coming up with some interesting genetics. The Rose's have been breeding some great cattle for year's and you will often see a Gar-lind name in the pedigree of a good one. Their lot 2 cow, Frimley Rene Dottie 72R, was one they bought from us( Frimley is my Mother's herd) as a yearling in one of our sales. Her sire was a bull used during the BSE and when we shipped him to market he brought the huge sum of $150.
No wonder the prices seem better today!
Here is a link to their catalogue and some videos.

I have 12H's yearling picture as well as my heifer Hot Candy's (she was kept instead).  When we had to come up with our sale features that year dad wanted only the best and Jacqueline had Hilary and I had Hot Candy.  Somehow we managed to keep our picks and dad sold his!

So what is the Dottie 55G cow in your avatar? I am assuming she is related. Neat to see a cow come from out of nowhere really to take over. I had never heard of that cow till maybe a year or so ago. Good for you guys.  She sure took a heck of a picture.
I answered this question a few years ago on this thread but here is an update. We flushed Dottie 55G to three bulls, Glenford Gus 4H. There are 5 offspring in Scotland from this mating at Smallburn Farms, 2 bulls and 3 heifers. Bred to Saskvalley Ultra 12J there are embryos at Caramba Shorthorns in Ireland. A son from this mating went with a group of 4 bulls to a large commercial herd this spring. We are still hoping we will get some heifers from that mating! We had two calves from the third mating to The Grove Kookaburra W735. Diamond Belvedere 29B at Hatfield Shorthorns in Manitoba and Diamond Bella Dottie 19B in our heifer replacement group. We have an AI calf coming in the spring by Belvedere and two embryos by him out of the Eionmor Lily 39S.
We also have Dottie 55G's last natural calf by Diamond Prophecy 21P in the herd. WE are planning on doing a few matings to her son Diamond Country Act 34C in the spring(a Herbourne B Manitoba Gus 13Z son). I also found a photo of Diamond Dottie 55G as a yearling heifer.
