What does it mean when a bull or cow has a pink nose? Does this mean they have a diluter gene? What does that do in terms of color when bred to black cattle?

I will attempt this question- Keep in mind I breed Red and or Black cattle- No shorthorn they may be a little different.

A diluter animal is a Red animal that when mated to a Homo Black animal can throw a grey baby otherwise I think you will get black or red.

Hope that helps :)

I don't think that the pink nose has anything to do with diluter genes. 70s & 80s there were a lot of simi, angus, char cross cattle carried the diluter gene and produced the so called rat tails. Breed any potential diluter cattle to NON- diluter bulls to get possible carriers still, but will not have the characteristics themselves. The diluter gene is still out there, but it is easy to find a non- diluter to breed to. We had a rat tail last spring out of a grey EXT cow and Cowboy Cut. I am planning on breeding that heifer to the Simi bull, Hustler this summer.

brindle as in color?

if it is what i think it is, my heifer has this. she is solid black, but she is starting to become a baldie. her white hair started at where her horns would have been, and it is progressing down the side of her head

that is just sunburn,  a brindle is more of a reddish animal with dark streaks.  Commonly seen in brahma - Hereford cross (tiger baldy)

Some dog breeds (Especially Boxers) have brindle as a color.  So, yes, Reds pic looks a lot like a Brindle colored boxer.  In otherwords, she is right...lol.

She is brindle, we had an old Amerifax Chi Maine cow that would through brindle when bred black.  We had english bulldogs of a while and they have the brindle as a color.  Can't explain it just know she is one. (thumbsup)

We have a 3/4 Shorthorn heifer out of CCC Gold Rush and a Shorthorn X Chi/Angus cow that has just a little bit of a brindle color.  I've posted her on here, she looks black, but when you get up close to her, she has reddish stripes on her top...it's not dead hair, and definitely not sunburn...weird.

Red, your cow has some Chi in her, doesn't she? A lot of Chi X cattle have that brindle color going on.

She's almost 75% Chi. Her sire was Foreplay. Her daughter threw that reall cool brownish heifer this year.

Nice cow Red!

So genetically...  how different are the grays that you get from the red diluters vs the grays from a Char x Black cross?

Red your calf is a really light red brindle. She may darken up some but will probably stay reddish. Keep us posted.
The first time I saw INFRARED in person at Denver I said that he was not red at all but a light red brindle. He is a black bull. He has a black switch, black nose, black feet and when shaved close on his head he is darker. Now if he was red you would never get a black calf when mated to a red cow and there have been reports of that so he is indeed a black bull that is a red carrier.

She's over 10 so doubt if she'll change much! She's the work horse of my herd. She & Rose will be stuffed when they die!  ;)

I meant the brownish reddish calf from this year. You are stuck with how the foreplay cow looks.
