just had one this morning...60 # bull calf...out of a pb angus 1st time heifer...no problems.....all black....i'll send you some pics.... jbarl
Thank you for the input. I am thinking about breeding him to some Angus hefers, was curious about calving ease. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I am just a little skeptical about breeding Simmental to 1st calf heifers, I know he is advertised as a calving ease bull was just wondering what others have experienced.

I used DJ Solution on first calf half blood Simmental heifers and had great luck. Had a 70# heifer, a 68# heifer and a 94# bull. The dam of the bull had some birth weight on her side but to her credit she had it on her own and all was good. I clipped him out this morning. If the fog ever lifts this week I will try to picture him.
I only had one half blood heifer to breed for this year and she is due to Solution on Friday.
The calf pictured is my son's B/O Jan. 09 Solution heifer. She has been second in class at both the Minnesota Beef Expo and Badger Kickoff. She has a perfect temperament for a seven year old to show.
Hope that helps. They seem to be pretty soggy made and have some grow in them.

Where can I get some Salution semen?? I think he is my bull to use..better yet, any sexed semen??

We used to own the bull and have had about 40 calves, They do come really easy, some can have a little birth weight but they are long and slender and even the one or two that were 90 just slid out. I wouldnt use him on any heifers that are crossed up especially with any Maine or Clubby genetics. I would say he is a pretty safe bet on Angus and simmental based 1st calvers. The calves are very eye appealing, they grow good and he added some frame to our ohlde/duff Angus, but he also took the guts away, they are very flat made. We have one or two that are soggy, which we kept as replacements we sold the rest because they were too hard made for us. hope this helps, I do have semen available if you are intersted. We still use the bull on some heifers but they are the Anchor belly draggers that need a frame or 2 and have enough belly for 2 cows.

Thank you very much for your feedback and honesty. My heifers are very deep, but probably a notch larger framed than Duff/Ohlde females. Your response was very enlightening and will have to think more about this. Do you have any other suggestions? The goal is to raise f1 females.P-F said:

Gary 89 - I think I would try Dream on, In Dew Time or Built Right, In Dew Times are very moderate, Built Rights are nice blaze faced
CAB - No we have not tried Amazon on heifers. His calves come real easy but We turned an Angus bull in because we wanted to keep the Angus heifers straight bred and the Sim/angus females were mostly DJ Salutions who is also a warehouse son. we only had about 10 Amazons last spring, 20 during the fall and about 50+ due this spring. BW have been mid to upper 70's, we have had one that was close to 100 but the cow has had two giants in a row, and last years was out of a real low BW angus bull and both were born dead so she is heading out in a few weeks! Randy said he wouldnt be at all afraid to use him on frame 5 or bigger heifers with pedigrees that dont have alot of birth wight in them. I wouldnt use him on any clubby bred heifers even if they were frame 7's!! ;D
Andrew is doing great, he sleeps pretty good, but I am still pretty tired, I was used to getting about 10 hours of sleep before plus he has a bad habit of getting up btw 5:30 and 6 which is killing me, I ask him every morning why he cant sleep just a little longer since I have to get up at 6:30
