Is there a way to DNA test to determine the sire of a heifer.  I'm buying a monopoly heifer and not to be a pessimist but how do I know if she is actually sired by monopoly.  She's a very nice heifer I'm going to be happy with her regardless of her sire I'm just curious.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever thought about it.

This is a very good question.

I would be interested in knowing the answer to this as well.

Yes, and it is very simple. Many companies will do it, and all you have to do is send in a hair sample or blood sample. You order the card from the company, and then send it back with the sample included. Simmental handles all of that for us, we just tell them we want to test, and what for, and they send the cards to us. Monopoly's dna is available for everyone, so you just request that she be sire verified to Monopoly. Genseke cost $45 for parentage verify, but I know there are others out there like Igenity and such. Just do a search...

Igenity can do a parentage test.  The cost is $15.

The only thing that may be different is if the heifer is registered or you are planning on registering her, you may want to check with the breed registry on a DNA kit, they may offer the same test, but charge more for it.

Our registry accepts the standard test results and no additional fees or rates and we will document on her papers that she is parentage verified.
