This one we raised.  This pic was taken about 3 months ago, and before it was taken the calves were weaned like a month earlier, and have had no creep, so they were just gettin on feed good at about this time.  She is really green in the pic, but she is at my brothers and he said that she is acually in really good shape now, and i think she calves fairly easy.  This heifer was the cows second calf.  She is out of a Sin City daughter that i showed.

I'm sure some will disagree, but he is probably the best and on the flip side the worst thing that ever happened to the Shorthorn breed.  He brought (IMO) the Shorthorn breed into the clubby spotlight and his influence brought much success in the showring for them, you can't ignore the th influence he brought with him and that would be a huge downside.  We love our Double Stuff's for show animals, but they don't have a lot going for them on the maternal side.

I agree with you Jill. I like Double Stuff in the form Double Vision or one of his sons and out of a cow that is stacked for maternal traits.

You need to breed your soggiest, best legged, smooth shouldered cows to him.  Otherwise you can end up with a straight, tube gutted thing.  Woulda won in the 90's, but not now.  He crosses well with Fullblood Maines, and most other breeds.

What set mim aside from the old improver bull? Was it his color? Hair? He was a double carrier first and foremost. He was prepotent. I never used him but he is very influentual for better or worse. (pop)

This old computor I am on is too old and slow to post a pic, but I will put a link to our D-Stuff daughter...  Reallyl turned into an awsome cow, didn't expect her to, but she did... Might be a bit moderate, staight and coarse for some, but some others say she as good as any..

http://kfacresshorts.webs.com/ (3rd cow down,-- pictured as a 2 year while nursing a calf, and as a baby..)

Whether or not we will use him again, maybe.. We don't have a lot of cows, but we might... I agree with those above, he needs to be used on big, flat shouldered, deep bodied, flexable cows...  AND HE IS DOUBLE POSTIVE!!  That something to worry seriously about...  OK if your selling show calves, NOT OK if your building a cow herd...

I have not had any Double Stuff offspring myself as he was never collected to Canada. I have seen some very good Double Stuff daughters, which one would expect from several thousand calves born. What I do find interesting is that when you look on the ASA website and search his daughters, there doesn't seen to be very many registered, and there are even less that have progeny that were registered. There are a few with one or two calves registered and that is it. This could be explained by his offspring being used in clubby operations more than in purebred breeding programs, but for a few years the show ring was dominated by Double Stuff offspring. His being a double carrier, probably eliminated more than a few, from many herds as well.

I have also heard from numerous people that Stuff daughters were not the most fertile creatures on the planet. I used a grand son of Double Stuff( he was sired by Double Vision), on my commercial black cows for a few years, and he sired some excellent calves here. I have posted his picture before on here and I will attach it again. His name was HC Street Legal 90N. He was out of one of our best milking donors so his daughters have made good milking maternal cows. Right now I am also using a great grandson of Double Stuff, on my commercial cows and he is also siring some very nice calves. He is a son of X Ray Vision and he is out of another of our donors.  I have posted his picture as well. Both these bulls were free of TH and PHA.

Even though some of the Double Stuff progeny may not have been the most fertile, or productive , some good things can appear when his genetics are blended with others. This is one good reason that you shouldn't put all descendants of a line in the same basket and call them all bad. This is hardly ever true.

Double Stuff is kind of making a small comeback.  I have noticed more people going back and using him again lately, mainly in club calf circles but that area  was  his bread and butter.

Double Stuff sired hair and calves that could be sold if people looked at them soon enough (before 4 months of age).  He really didn't do too much for us, but Double Down, Double Vision, and Double Trouble worked well on our cows.  Have not and will not use any of them again since the TH and PHA deals came up.

Did not read the rest of the post in detail, But we are going to use him heavy again this year. He can sire steers and that is what we are after. He can sire some very nice females also. Our best donor is  a D. Stuff.

The first photo is of the donor. The second is her heifer we are going to show later this spring sired by SULL Final Solution. The third is a steer we sent to Texas through Tony Austin that was second point steer out of the donor and Wild Side. She has had two more very successful calves by Wild Side one a undefeated heifer and the other a steer pictured in the photo with her. D. stuff is not for everyone, but he works for us. I bet you would be hard pressed to find a cow with more maternal value.

The last photo is of a heifer we sold out of another D.Stuff donor and Vortec. She was show extremely successfully in 2001.He mother has since passed on. You can see a little more on our web page about her.

Everyone said D.Stuff sire small unproductive cattle. They really need to look at the female that one some of our recent major shows. I am not saying they are bad, but they are small. If you think D. Stuff sired small early maturing cattle They need to look at the early maturity of the Jakes Proud Jazz cattle.

Here are a couple that had very successful show careers at our house, the darker roan we still have as a cow, both were out of Fullblood Maines.

nice shorts is the top pic....just had to say it.
Just a guess but with the barney towel on the heifer, the shorts and sun glasses and the baby with the sand bucket it was probally some sort of theme.
