Doug Satree will be judging our Gelbvieh show in Billings. Does anyone know what he looks for in bulls and heifers?

Thanks

I have shown under him before with Gelbviehs, but I do not recall what show, so I can't tell you what he looks for :(  sorry.  I am thinking in was the State Fair in 03.  If that is right, he looks for something that is pretty fronted, stylish, moderate.  I know that doesn't help much, sorry!  Good Luck though!  What are you taking?

We'll be pulling in 2 bull calves and 3 heifers. One of the heifers is in the Billings sale and the other will be a National sale consignment in Denver. One of the bull calves is a Bruce Almighty on an Fighting Irish daughter, the other is a Formula son. The NILE sale heifer is a Bruce Almighty on a Irish daughter, and the National heifer will be a Formula daughter on a Hercules daughter. The other heifer is a Bruce daughter as well.

We'll see what he thinks of our bull calf. He's pretty clubby looking for a Guppy.

Doug lives just a few miles from me.  We haven't been in a show under him in a while, but he's an Angus man first and foremost these days for whatever that's worth.

I took a look at some of the animals he's pulled out and it look like he likes them whistle fronted and pushing some condition. The heifers he's pictured with don't look too small though, what are we calling 'moderate' these days?

When I showed under him (again, if I am thinking correctly) I had Reserve with a wistle fronted Gelbvieh heifer calf.  (Freedom X Echo) She had tons of shape to her rib and was super thick but still smooth fronted.  Her biggest fault was she was a little straight- turned out cripple as a 2yo and got shipped- but she looked dang good as a calf.  She had some hair too.  He wanted to use her momma, but told me it was hard to pull out an "old grandma cow"  which she was at the time, but she is also a super clean fronted cow that has a lot of shape and depth to her rib and her biggest clam to fame is she is sound as they come and has the smoothest set of shoulders you will find in a Gelbvieh cow.

Again good luck!

If I can get calves to cooperate with me tomorrow I'll get some pictures. You can let me know what I'm walking into.
