I think the calf shows real potential!  Many have found that the limousin/simmental cross works very well.
Dream On has crashed on several simmental bloodlines, so I do not question his use on limousin or other breeds.
Are you saying he "wasted" the semen on a limousin Romax? I think the resulting calf proves the semen wasn't "wasted".

He certainly has muscle. I'd be Concerned about his front leg structure and softness of rib. Too many times I see limousinX cattle that are too harshly made.

I will admit Dream On was not my first choice but last year was my first year breeding and without a semen tank I was limited to the semen on hand that was heifer safe, that my ABS breeder had and he would not order semen.  I did get lucky and got her bred on the first try and the breeder only charged me $50 instead of the normal $100.  How do you think he would do shown as a bull at the county fair level ?    Dont be afraid to hurt my feelings.  Should I raise him for beef or try to market him for a 4-H steer prospect, I dont want to sell someone a lost cause but I dont want to sell him short.

He is not a bad calf by any stretch. In a county with a simmi class he would probably be pretty competitive. He is alot better than 90% if the calves you'll see at most county fairs and would compete in a carcass contest.

I agree with Mooch.  He is not a bad calf at all.  Lim/Flex (limmy/angus) are getting really popular in my area.  One breeder has been winning all the shows and county fairs with her lim/flex females.  So even though I would have liked to have your straw of Dream On to use on my simmy females, I don't think it was wasted. :)
I think that calf would make a great 4-H level steer.

I think the Lim-flex program has a lot to offer to producers to make females. Some of the best yearling heifers I've seen have been lim flex. But that's a very different cross than Simmental x lim. There's a reason Simmental and limousin and Charolais cross well with Angus cattle. They're complementary in type of muscle, structure, stature, feed conversion, and ability to finish across vast portions of their respective gene pools.

Thus the reason DO became so widespread popular within the breed,he breeds nearly identical to a high caliber angus bull and may be why this works .

I don't think it was a waste, I would have liked a heifer more than a bull calf. But I would try and sell him as a 4-H steer, he could surprise some people. I would try and get a 4-H kid to buy him. I think it could of been a good connection if the calf was a heifer. You did good for the semen only costing you $50.
