I would have thought that at 13 years of age they would have left Diamond Helena Dottie 12H open and ready to flush!
I like her Sonny daughters (thumbsup)

Lily 102R is an incredible breeding piece. She's just getting started, too. Have a feeling the big guns will be on that one!

Dottie is a little old to insure these days - it's a risky investment although I think she could sell well??

I am going to agree on Lily and through in Polka .

Stopping there next week- seems like I liked the lora female tooo? ?

I was through the Duis cow herd last September and the Lily cow was my pick at that time. Dottie has been a tremendous producer, however, she was starting to show her age. I purchased a flush in Lily in the Duis sale last fall.

In regards to Dottie being bred to calve, it is important especially in some of these older donors to allow them to have a natural calf every once in awhile. It will extend their flushing career, and extend their useful lives. There is a big difference between donors as to how many times they can be flushed before they need to be rebred. Some cows can be flushed every two months for a year or more, and some should be rebred after a couple of flushes.
Every time a cow is flushed, the lining of the uterus can have damage done to it, and this is why some donors will breed back and then lose the pregnancy. In the case of Dottie, the fact that she is rebred, and due to calve again is IMO very good news!

I was at Bob's clipping for pictures and helping in the picture pen as little as I could (so wind a shed blew down while we were picturing!). This set of cattle are for real. This sale is a must see and will be one of the great sets of Shorthorn genetics to sell at public auction. One heck of a party planned for Bob to celabrate his shift in time commitment from chores to bothering fish populations! Don't miss this one.

Just looked at it online today-- in reading the letter at the beginning- I didn't quite figure out why he is getting out-- I take it retirement??
Looks to be a very good set of cattle and I wish them the best on June 4.  Most will probably be out of my budget range. Someday, I hope  I will be able to buy and not worry about the zeros at the end!  LOL

I booked my room today for this sale. The biggest problem I will have is trying to arrange flushing and synchronization programs so I can get a few days free. This is a busy time of year for me, but I hope to make this sale.

What a shame to see Bob getting out. Sad part is he probably will not be the last one in this breed. Good family and great cattle.

Sue,
Let me know what you think of the Lot  43a bull calf.  I am wondering why I sold the pair.  But you have to sell the good ones.

Just booked my room. Looking forward to the sale, just hate that we're losing a great breeder & asset to the breed.

1st let me say you folks that booked "a" room may want to extend your stay.... get there early and walk this group again and again...two nights may be more appropriate?.
Craig Fuller will be tied up but contact this young man ahead of time and just visit awhile with this young herdsman prior to arrival - he knows this group very well.
We walked through in the rain, the pastures are green and this may one of two opportunities in the spring of 2011 to see "sire groups" in one offering . Deep and wide. ( obviously RS had his offering on March 24th). Beaverville, IL is easy to find - this is a great educational piece for a young shorthorn breeder - you need to see sire groups offered in one sale. Dont skip this sale or think you cannot afford, just go and learn.

I have to throw Roan Sue in the mix of my picks of high selling donors- she had two outstanding heifer calves, one photoed as a half page- yep she is as good or better then the pic. The donor is a beast and from they say egg producer too. Hey Lora did again with Sundowner - only this time white heifer! That was my pick from last fall, the full sib sold for 30k.

My waco and or bull calf pics - Lot 43 - Deerhorn bred mama with a soft sound wide roan waco bull calf at side. He just has that short masculine neck, smooth jointed with this flank that appears to have alot of room . DF Denton is hairy but in the rain you could see a deep quarter and thick top. yep- you need to grab this pair Mitch, get a partner too.
Shadybrook bred - Scarlet with dark roan waco bull calf at side. I saw from 3 pasture runs away - her waco is alot like the calf above. She is pictured in the catalog- she is a DF gold eagle 0019 x DFS Red rider 839.

Sneed and Cindy did a great job with pics- the cattle are really that stout.

There is no risk in buying Dottie just ask your banker for a extra $18,000 on top of the purchase price and clone her, she will stay young forever. Retirement is tough it has been 4 years since we sold the cows and dad still misses them. He checks every sale catalog we get to see if anything that traces back to our place is selling and it makes his day when he finds something (Not bad for a nobody from Leonardville, KS he will say). It is a good thing we have nice neighbors who let him help out. It is really hard this time of year when he has no babies to look at. He is having hip replacement surgery in May so he thinks he will be feeling good enough to make the trip to Bob's. Wishing Bob all the best, enjoy retirement and despite what you think in a few years pulling calves at 2 in the morning is not fun.
