Although you cant tell much from pictures they have alot of good decent BW bulls in thier sale-although very few are much over an 1100 yearling wt-which is understandable when you have calving ease.If I could see one group-it would be the ones out of Ashvalley Answer. The favorite for me is the Double Leader out of the Kendra cow (I think):shes one of the best old school tried true cows IN THE BREED-jmo. He also has as good a BW-weaning yearling spread (real wieght not EPDS) as anything in the sale:and if he has a butt on him,hes my kind from pedigree on. JMO.Id LIKE TO USE HIM if someone collects him later.Ditto on the Byland SpellboundxRed Cloud bull called Old School: he reminds me alot of the bulls I saw years ago at Deertrail, and those rascals produced some great females.whereever they went. Thanks for the replies. The bulls you like are unique Mark. I like the looks of lot 2 and 5. They are fairly similar in their look and numbers. Both had bw's in the 70's, frame 5, 4 or higher IMF and respectable YW's for their frame size. Both were in the top pen of 3 at Denver. I wasn't overly thrilled with our Capiche, but these 2 would appear to have more growth and higher WW's than he had.

There seems to be some differences in the scan data from The pen show and the scan data done at the farm and posted on their website. Lot 6, for example, lost 3" of REA but gained almost a full point IMF. I think the scans were only days apart. Is this not a bit too much of a difference, or did I miss something? Any opinions on which one to go by?

You have good taste.  From the first time I looked through it I liked 2,5,28- in that order.  2 was still my pick after seeing some of them at Denver.  30 was a pretty nice bull too- I looked at him for a while in the pens.  I would expect these to have much more performance than Capiche.  Then again, I've always thought he was more middle of the road as far as JPJ sons go.

Lot 5 is listed as a DS Carrier this morning on their website. That's a little disappointing. Lot 2 is supposed to have a lot of interest. So maybe Lot 6 is my pick now. There are multiple carriers, wonder if it will affect the sale any?

I would think scans would vary day to day person to person. Thats one reason I shudder when I hear of an extremely good scan on a bull. Maybe someone else should do another scan the next day. There is no truth in advertising ona deal like that.

For show cattle people it may not matter on the ds deal. Possibly not on a commercial bull buyer. It took some integrity for Jungles to list that deal. It tooksome guts.....period.

It should only be a consideration for purebred breeders.  It should make the commercial man no difference so long as none of his cows go back to that line - which 99.999999% of commercial cattle don't.  The question is how many bulls in the sale are prospective herd sires for Purebred breeders.  I would think only a handful at most.  I can see it affected how much those buyers are willing to pay.

We thought the sale went really well. The Lot 2 bull we liked went to Semex, so we will probably be able to use him anyway. We bought the Lot 6 bull, thought he had as good of weights and scan data as any bull in the sale.

I didn't write anything down and didn't watch the whole sale. But I believe Lot 28 sold to a syndicate where Cates get possession and a bunch of breeders get a semen package. I don't recall who bought Lot 13.

We wondered about Lot 10. He looked like the heaviest muscled bull in the pictures and video. We just weren't sure on the way he wasn't flexing his hock in the video. Not being able to see him in person, we decided to pass on him. He must not have moved too bad though, to still bring over $4000.

I made it up to the sale. I liked 2, 5, 15, 28, and 29. Since 5 was DS I didn't look further but he was really good. Lot 2 was really good in person and thought had better feet than lot 1. 15 was a unique pedigree with really good numbers and colored differently. He sold well. I thought 28 and 29 were very similar with 28 being more powerful in the hip and top and 29 having more calving ease physical traits with the same performance and eye appeal. Overall, a great day for the breed and I also give Jungels a big thumbs up for listing the DS carriers.  (thumbsup)

Unfortunately I didn't get anything because the one's I liked went really high. Thought I had a chance to steal lot 29 by going up there but dag gone it that didn't happen! 8)
