Nothing against Weaver or anyone else, OH Breeder.  But I'd preder to buy my show supplies from someone actually involved in the cattle business.

The company I work for was started by a business men, a nurse and two scientist. We grew and grew. They made alot of money but the core of the people stayed the same after we were purchased. Weaver started 1973 as a Leather harness and leather repair shop. So now they are backed by a coporation. So what? Its still Weaver that started the business.

Yes and the owner of Pro-fit does own cows and shows and has been part of the cattle industry forever. I purchased my first show calves from him!

I agree with Doc, Jill etc - competition is good - if the goal is really to promote the juniors then it should occur with no strings attached to the cash - yes junior shows are expensive but if they are going to limit show suppliers based on donations then why are they asking everyone else for money?

You are correct on Brent. He owns cattle, he worked for the Shorty Assoc for a while & someone can correct if I'm wrong here but he also started the Maine Anjou Voice magazine then sold it to the Assoc.(least that is what I was told it seems like). But I think they were talking about Weaver not Pro-Fit on not being from cattle background.
I'm with DL on the sponsor deal. I know with Shorthorns they have different levels on sponsorships, donations , fundraisers ,etc. Once again I just don't like monopolies in anything. I'm not saying Sullivans' is a bad company , was just wondering how all this went down.

Isn't it nice when speculation can end abruptly when you get the answer direct from the source.  I just wish we had more people that would step out and respond to questions about their bull or company.

My thoughts exactly.

I didn't realize everyone was kissing butt. I asked a question & semi got an answer. I mean was without whatever money was donated by Sully was the Shorthorn Jr Nat'l not going to be held or did it just it allow them tro take it to another level in prizes? I geuss you can't blame Sully, he saw an opportunity & went for it & got it. I geuss when you boil it all down the Assoc.'s were the ones that created the monopoly. As far as the Shorties go I geuss it would now be more of a question for a member of the board of directors.

Sullivan's is hardly a monopoly, being the only supplier at the Nationals hardly makes them a monopoly.  If someone else wants their favorite supplier to be there, then I suugest you tell them to get off the pocket books and fork out the money Sullivan's does to help these organizations.  I know the next statement will be Sullivan's is larger and its unfair.  Well Sullivan's is larger because they put the blood, sweat, and tears into being that way.  They are larger because they get out there and sponsor events and put on events, they do Stock Show U, they give scholarships, they develop new products.  How many new products have the other companies developed that were not copying Sullivan's??? It seems to me like every NEW product that comes on the market is released by Sullivan's first, then within a year or two every other show supply company has their version of it.  Its this inovation and product development that not only helped Sullivan's get ahead of the competition in the first place, but keeps them there.  Nothing is stoppiing the other companies from releasing something new and beating Sullivan's to the punch, but they dont do it.
And for the argument against Family owned vs. Corporation, yes Sullivan's is a Corporation, a family owned corporation. At least to my knowledge they are not publicly traded or have stockholders.  Every other family owned show supply company is also a corporation because they are incorporated as a business.
I am not some die hard Sullivan's supporter, hell I find the cheapest way that works, I am one of those that mixes my own concoctions.  But it seems like people are trying to dog Sullivan's here, and Sullivan's is a great company that honestly from what I see does a LOT more to help this industry and the kids than any other Show Supply company.  Maybe someone else sees the other companies putting on the events, camps, etc and giving the scholarships, but I havent.  Its simple business economics, the associations needed big money sponsors to make the shows happen, Sullivan's stepped up to the plate. Plain and simple, its a win, win for everyone(well except the companies who cant just pull in and sell their stuff now, but if they would have forked over the dough then they could have had the "monopoly")

Look up www.capitalpartners.com.  This is the owners of Weaver.  They are a huge buying and selling acquisitions firm, Warren Buffett style based out of Greenwich, CT.  Doubt they’ve ever seen a cow.  I will keep my dollars in the Midwest.

Hey  I clicked on CAPITAL PARTNERS WEB PAGE- THEY OWN LONESTAR LEAN BEEF- WHICH PROCESSES 1000 HD/ DAY IN SAN ANGELO, tx.  good chance cp has seen a cow.

Or maybe we just respect someone that comes on here and sets the record straight instead of allowing everyone to speculate.   More admirable than throwing out quips behind your username about a company that is doing a lot for this industry.  This is not a monopoly, it is a partnership deal, a deal that was obviosuly the most beneficial to jr. nationals or they wouldn't have solicited it.

Does Budlight have a monopoly because they are the official sponsor of the nfl?  Its called business.

The topics has been I guess locked-just a response to the quote for the vendors not being able to pull in and sell the stuff without forking up.  The vendors at Jr. Nationals have always donated money to be there, this isn't new and it isn't an exclusive thing for this year.

I agree with the thread about mixing my own . But I applaud  Sullivan's , they are a stand up outfit that i am proud to deal with. I recently bought products from them that was flawed and they immediately replaced them. I intend to continue doing business with them and still mix my own products.
