The Belted Galloway breed has been gathering information for some time but has not yet developed an EPD program.

The Illinois State Fair has a performance cow class that includes indivdual performance as well as EPD's.

We wish to show a Belted cow there in a couple of years and would like to get some data established so we are eligible.
Cows without EPD's are still able to show for one year but cannot be considered for champion cow/calf.

A couple of years ago there was a multi-breed organization trying to get established that claimed to be able to
develope EPD's regardless of breed.

Can anyone help me find a source of EPD's for Belties?

Thank you folks!

make up your own...

i can't see any logical, or accurate way to compare a group of unrelated, unknown, or otherwise completely different cattle via EPDS.

seriously, if you keep good enough records, and have enough data...  with enough time- you can create your own in herd EPDS, they'll be useless to anyone else though.

The American Simmental Association was the first to publish EPDs and has always been a leader in performance evaluation. Dr. Wade Schafer is a good contact there, and I'd think he would be as good as anybody I can think of to talk to you about possible opportunities in performance evaluation. ASA also developed multi-breed EPDs using the large database of information collected through an open herd book registry program, and we're partnering with Red Angus this summer and will publish the first EPDs developed by two breed associations using a common base. So I think there are possibilities for other breeds out there...you need to talk to people who know what they're talking about, and you might have to keep a very open mind.

LLBUX if you are a member of the US based Belted Galloway Association that uses CLRC for your registrations there is an EPD program available to your association from BIO in conjunction with CLRC. The costs are very reasonable.

If you require more info please PM me or contact CLRC direct. I know the Canadian Blonde d'Aquitaine use this system and are very happy with it. BIO also offers ABC EPD's.
