We are planning on AI'ing some cows and heifers this year...we plan on heat detecting using the patches.. we will give a shot of estroplan..should we still give a shot of fertaline when they are a.ied or shot before the estroplan. Or if anyone has any other programs that work. Thanks

Good call on the patches, I've had really good luck with them.

I'm not familiar with Estroplan, but it sounds like a prostaglandin. That will bring them into heat within a few days after you give it. I personally use a CIDR protocol with my cattle when I AI and I almost always give GnRH (fertaline) at breeding, it helps with ovulation. That's the quick and dirty explanation. There's more than one way to skin a cat (or set up a cow). ;D

Are you wanting to use CIDRs? Are you time breeding? Bunching? Or just AIing when you see heats? How many times do you want to run them through the chute, etc. What are your objectives with this group of cattle?

We don't plan on using the cidr. We are only going to a.i about ten. So with the gnrh shot...should we give it when we a.i. or when we bring them in to give them the shot of estroplan(same as estramate)?

Personally, I give it at breeding.

Who is AIing the cattle for? I would suggest that you get them involved in your plan. Definitely give the GnRH shot at the time of breeding and not with the shot of PG.
