I started in shorthorns longer ago than ill admit- and have seen it go from 3 breeds to now-Ill allways have a place in my heart for shorthorns- because they are the gentic chamelions- almost every breed of cattle that exisits other than the monsterous chis from italy and herefords and limmis, trace genetically to shorthorn DNA- that means YOU ANGUS, maines ,charolais,simmental (slap my wristes if not) ETC.lONG STORY SHORT,  I feel that the breed because of lack of commercial acceptance (like the maines sullears etc) haS BEEN POLITcICKED into a group of 5-7 breeders who are perpetuating the linebreeding of a very high birthwieght  misrepresented close knit group of cattle , and on the other side- a red- basically unattractive low birth wieght bunch with less than 1000 pound yws for bulls etc. DUE TO RANGE CONDITIONS ETC.Geneitically shorthorns and angus are extremely close and just as far apart for alot of people-, shorthorns are correct and add the blue color angus put the bw and short term steam in the deqal, I still dont think anything can beat a great shorthorn female in the ring nothing will-or ever will do that deal.\But there are so many good cattle of other breeds- that you have to BE about doing the basics- I feel the currant shorthorn  deal is untenable- my 5 Years breeding low BWS into my shorthorns has worked- but politically they arent like everything else-so Im crossing them out- with REAL improved cattleare--maines and chis. iTS NOT THAT iM A COMMERCIAL BREEDER- BUT iVE SEEN FIRST HAND-HOW THEY DO-SIDE BY SIDE- INCLUDING FIRST CALVERS WHO HAD TWINS-what are you marketing out there? how do you expect any commercial cattleout of the high BW bulls you are trading into nowhere?,and please dont attempt to snow me with certain epds-going back to trump -57-rose- I have 2 - that are triple berd. O0
