I know hair is the last thing to look for because they all have it. Eye Candy is great but $40 is as high as I'll go per straw and I absolutely will not breed to bulls with TH/PHA. I have pretty much got this years AI bulls figured out though,
* I-80 for a pb maine http://www.cattlevisions.com/Maine/I-80.php
heifers
* Long Time Coming http://www.cattlevisions.com/Composite/LongTimeComing.php
because I like some chrome on the calf

Is there any thing comperable to I-80 for cheaper prices

Rumor Mill or his sire Mercedes Benz or Boomer.

Can I ask #1 If you are breeding for steers, why are you breeding to Maternal bulls? #2 why are you so against TH is you have free cows and breeding for steers? Just curious.. ??? Good Luck getting much Hair with them..

He won't add power but won't take away, calves are
Moderate BW, depends on dams pedigree.  I don't have any good calf pics but can post some out of Highlander cows next wk

While I'm breeding for steers I will also keep their sisters and I'm not going to pass on a lethal genetic defect to more cattle

You think I-80 is maternal?

I would call I-80 a maternal bull, he throws good steers on the right cow but he's not one of the 'steer sires'

I'm not familiar with maines, but defect free and 'steer sire' is kind of a contradiction, I just don't see many major winning steers that have the shag it takes, and not be out of a bull or a cow with some sort of defect

Not saying he's not out there, but I haven't seen him

I posted info the other day about a bull called undertaker. Should be in a recent post. Has a yearling and mature picture. He is clean on both. 87% maine. He has made some pretty good ones.

The deal with TH isn't all down to hair. A lot of it has to do with the hip and rear leg design that goes along with the carriers.  The animals that exhibit the "TH" look are much more explosive in their hip and rear leg, and can somehow move well enough even though they look like freaks.  The hair is also a plus, but you can have all the hair you want and you won't get anywhere without that look.

I 80 can do it out of a powerful cow, as can Ali. I'd use them on really stout, moderate cows with a little bit of a mutt background.
