Just wondering if anyone here has had any combustible calves and if you have any thoughts on him? I'm thinking of using him on a few of our fall calving cows.  Has anyone seen his son Ignition?  Thanks in advance.

I've had three flushmates this spring and so far im not that impressed on the appearance. The bull calf was a little slow coming out, not too big but cow didn't spring enough, so he seems a liitle dopey (that's his nickname) and had a bad case of the scours for a little while so he is very behind but doing better. The heifers were pretty moderate in birthweight and have grown good. They are good structured and have plenty of muscle but aren't standouts in the show herd (been spoiled by my Broker calves). I think Combustible would be great to add some style to plain cows that lack muscle and will produce nice calves that could win small shows but i don't think he will produce the next major show champion.jmo

I've heard mixed results from other breeders but so far I'm pleased with my results. Initially I wasn't happy with the consistency, but as they grow I think the group is becoming more uniform. A few are late bloomers. While I agree he probably won't blow you away with the next great show winner, mine are all solid calves that have improved the cow in many cases. In my opinion he seems to breed about how he looks in person. He has added thickness and muscle, but not always the deepest sided or cleanest fronted calves. I question their future fleshing ability as some of the calves are expressive in their muscle pattern but look more lean and tight gutted. I saw Ignition at stud as a yearling and fell in love with him. I tried to get semen but the owners were playing games and chose not to sell semen until later in the fall. That is the main reason I ended up going back and using Combustible as heavily as I did. Therefore I won't have any Ignition calves until next spring. I did flush to him and got 100% conception on AI. The semen is potent. I have heard the Ignition calves are not as thick as Combustible calves, but are better fronted.

They're no good. Flushed a 680s cow to him and they calves are they worst crop she's had.

Haven't seen any calves I've liked yet. He's certainly no Broker

We have used him on a few cows with good results.  Sold a nice bull out of him from last years calf crop. Front like his mother but big hipped big bellied and grew well. Was extremely docile.
Have a really nice heifer out of him this year. Same deal big hipped, big bellied, bone, and pretty good fronted for the power she has.  We used him again for next years calf crop.

We got along great with him, but are not using him again. For me they were all too open in the shoulder and tight in their structure. Now that being said they had enough power, belly, bone, and hair that their faults didn't bother quite a few people. We sold 18,000 dollars worth on 3 hd and have 2 replacements from last year. Finished out the cane and have 2 on the ground this year and both look the part and I will be suprised if they are not high sellers. Conception was great! He has his place and IMO it is on really flat shouldered plain made females. Exactly where Broker and many other Steel Force sons don't work

Ive had four calves out of this bull.  You got to give these calves time to develop.  They won't blow you away early. Use him on clean fronted 5.5 frame angus cows for best resuls.  Attitudes have been good as well.  If used on simmental baldy cows you may get more white than you want.  Mine have been fast growing good feet and legs with enough depth. And have won three championships as early senior heifer calves.  Don't use him on large framed cows or cows that have a lot of leather.
