We have a steer that currently weights 1150, we have elected to try and show him this fall at 1300 or so. Any suggestions as to how to feed him this summer ???

I think I would try and hold him now for a period and then feed him for the last 2 or 3 months. We hold them with Beetpulp, oats and a fat and protein supplements (EZ-fill, Fast Fat,soy pellets) can slow them down to a crawl with out ruining them. Then you can bring them back and they will look fresh at the right time.

I would turn him out on a round bail and feed him Purina Full Control at a rate of 12lbs a day and monitor his gains... should be round 1lb a day or less... If gain is to much then drop to 10lbs a day... then as vc stated around 45-60 days out start mixing your finishing ration of choice back back until you get on full feed....G-Luck
