We have 3 steers and 3 heifers (one of each for each of our 3 children). We have been feeding Honor Show Chow Fitters Edge and/or Finishing Touch (depending on the calf) because a couple of them were eating that when they came to us. We plan to switch over to AAOK's recipe, but my husband has had some trouble with the grinder/mixer.

#1-My morning ration is the Show Chow with some stabilized rice bran, and some Appetite Express. My evening ration is the same, minus the Appetite Express. The calves get fed slightly more in the evening than in the morning. The calves will often not eat everything in the morning, but almost always eat everything in the evening. Why? It is not the Appetite Express because I get the same results with it as I do without it.

#2-My husband likes me to save the leftover feed and feed it again at the next feeding. I don't like to do this for a couple of reasons- the feed is not as fresh and the calves don't eat it as well
and I do not know how much of the additives were eaten from the ration. If I re-feed what is left  plus more of the Show Chow and  additives at the next feeding, I could be givimg too much of the additives. So-can this leftover feed be fed to the cows? Is either additive harmful to a pregnant or milking cow?

#2- of our calves decide to just eat half of their previous feelings feed by the time we go to dump feed on the next time, we'll feed slightly less than half and make them clean everything up.

You don't want to be consistently removing pounds of expensive show feed to feed to your cows.. Just cut back some on feed.

Cattle will have a bigger appetite in the evenings B4 it gets to warmer weather simply B/C they are more active during the day therefore they burn more energy during the day causing them to eat more at their night time feeding. Just cut their AM. feeding back a tick for now. You'll be able to manage the bunk if you watch it. JMO. The situation could flip flop for you once it gets hot.
